Experiments were conducted at the Regional Station of Bangladesh Rice Research (BRRI) Rajshahi to find out the suitable agronomic management practices like seedling raising method, spacing, seedling age, seedling number per hill, fertilizer rate and planting date for better yield of hybrid rice. Hybrid varieties IR69690H (BRRl Hybrid 1),. IR67161H. IR68877H, Aalok (H6201) were used with inbred check BRRl28. BRRI dhan29 and BRRl dhan36 in different seasons. In case of 45 day-old- seedling. it was observed that increase in grain yield was insignificant with increased seedling number per hill. Seedling age of 30 and 45 days gave statistically identical grain yield which was significantly higher than 60 day-old-seedling. Older seedling of R69690H with 2 seedlings hill-1significantly increased grain yield over single seedling hill-1.Grain yield increased up to 240 kg nitrogen (N) ha-1 in IR69690H and BRRI dhan 29 but 120 kg ha-1 was effective to produce higher yield due to identical effect of N from 120-240 kg N ha-1in both the varieties. For seedling raising method of hybrid rice, dapog method with 20cm x 20cm gave better yield than conventional wet seedbed and rice husk seedbed. Planting date in Boro at 10th January with 30 day-old seedling gave significantly the highest grain yield and thereafter yield decreased. But only IR69690H produced statistically identical yield from 10th January to 25th February.

To find out the suitable agronomic management practices like seedling raising method, spacing, seedling age, seedling number per hill, older seedling effect, fertilizer rate and planting date for better yield of hybrid rice.

The experiments were conducted in 1998-99 to 2000-01 during Boro seasons at the Regional Station of Bangladesh Rice Research Institute, Rajshahi in irrigated ecosystem. Experiment on seedling number to find out optimum seedling number per hill were conducted in Boro 1998-1999. Hybrid rice varieties, IR67161H. Aalok (H6201), IR68877H and IR69690H were used with BRR! dhan28, BRRI dhan29 as inbred check variety. Seedling number @ 1, 2 and 3 per hill were used. Seeds were sown in the seedbed on 03 December 1998 and seedlings were transplanted on 10 January 1999. Urea- TSP-MP-Gypsum-ZnS04 was applied @ 270-130-120-70-10 kg ha-1 respectively. Three experiments were conducted on optimum seedling age, aged seedling and nitrogenous fertilizer rate in Boro 1999-2000. Hybrid rice IR68877H and IR69690H were used with inbred check BRRI dhan29 for those experiments except nitrogen fertilizer rate. Three seedling aged 30, 45 and 60 day were used for seedling age experiment. One and 2 seedling per hill of 65 day-old seedling were transplanted for the older seedling experiment and 0, 80, 120, 160, 200 and 240 kg N ha-1were used for nitrogenous fertilizer rate experiment. Fertilizers other than N were same as in Boro, 1998-1999 for the fertilizer rate experiment. Two experiments were conducted in Boro, 2000-01, one for seedling raising method (with spacing) and the other for planting time of hybrid rice. For seedling raising method, hybrid line IR69690H was used with three seedling-raising methods (conventional wet seedbed, rice husk seedbed and dapog seedbed) with three spacings (20 x 20cm, 30 x 30 cm and 40 x 40 em). Fifteen days old seedling was used in this experiment with the concept of SRI(System of Rice Intensification). Hybrid rice IR69690H and IR68877H were used with inbred check BRRI dhan28, BRRI dhan 29 and BRRI dhan36 in the time of planting experiment. Five planting dates (25 December, 10 January, 25 January, 10 February and 25 February) were maintained. Fertilizer application was same as used in Boro, 1998-1999. During the growing period all necessary care regarding weeding, top dressing, irrigation and drainage were taken in time for proper growth and development of the crop. Experimental design for all the experiments conducted in different years was split plot design with three replications. Rice yield was harvested from central 5 m2 area of the plot and the grain weight was adjusted at 14% moisture and finally the grain yield was converted to t ha-1. All the collected data were compiled and analyzed statistically .
