Afield experiment was conducted in Old Brahmaputra Floodplain soils (Sonatala series) of BJRI Fann, Kishoreganj to study the effect of phosphorus and sulphur in presence and absence of Urea-N and Rhizobium inoculation on peanut (Arachis hvpagaea L. ). The experiment was laid out in split plot design with 27 fertilizer treatment combinations, replicated thrice. Results indicated significant favourable effect of nitrogen treatments and sulphur on number and weight of pods per plant and pod yield. Application of P showed significant favourable effect only on pod number and pod yield. The interaction of P and S and of N, P and S has significant effect on number of pods per plant. Besides, there was significant positive co"elation of weight of nodules, and number and weight of pods with pod yield indicating favourable influence of these plant characters on pod yield. Use of Rhizobium inoculant and application of 30 kg urea-N gave an increase in pod yield by 20% and 22%, respectively over N control plots. Application of 20 kg and 40 kg S/ha increased pod yield by 11% and 13%, respectively over S0 plots but the effect of P was not spectacular. The combination of urea-N (30 kg N/ha) and sulphur (40 kg S/ha) and that of Rhizobium inoculation and sulphur (20 kg S/ha) with 30 kg P/ha recorded the pod yield of 2.68 tons/ha (61% increase over control) and 2.53tons/ha (52% in crease over control), respectively.

To  assess the  effect  of different rates of P and S fertilizers in presence and absence of Urea-N and Rhizobium inoculation on the growth and yield of peanut.

The  field  experiment was  conducted at BJRI farm, Kishoreganj  (Sonatala series) in 1986-87.  The texture·of  the soil is loam having neutral pH of 7, total nitrogen 0.08%, available phosphorus 14 ppm and available sulphur 16 ppm. The  experiment was laid  out  in split  plot design. There were 3 nitrogen  treatments viz. No (no urea  and no Rhizobium inoc. used),  N30 (30 kg N/ha as urea)  and Inoc. (20g  Rhizobium  inoculant/kg seed).  Half dose  of urea-N was applied  at the time of sowing of the crop and the rest half was applied at 30 days after sowing. Inoculation of the  seeds with  Rhizobium inoculant  was done immediately before sowing using molasses as the sticking agent.  The N treatments  were  randomly distributed  in  the main plots.  There were 3 rates of P (0, 30 and 60 kg P/ha as TSP) and 3 rates of S (0, 20 and 40 kg S/ha as gypsum) giving 9 combinations of P and S, which were distributed randomly in the subplots. Thus, the total number of  treatments were  27  and  each treatment was replicated thrice. The individual plot size was 4.0m x 2.5m. Data  on growth parameters and yield of peanut were collected, processed and statistically analyzed.
