On Farm Yield Trial of Advanced Line of White Jute

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Under this experiment one advanced breeding line BJC-5003 derived from a cross between a Corchorus capsularis L. variety CVL.-1 and a blue seeded germ plasm (accession no. 1831) of Corchorus capsularis L. was tested at four regional stations and Central Jute Agricultural Experiment Station (JAES), Manikganj as well as 17 sites of farmers’ field of those locations for evaluation of yield, adaptability and suitability. The commercial existing variety CVL-1 was used as check.The advanced line BJC-5003 showed higher yield which was about 3.77 percent and 4.23 percent higher yield than the check variety CVL-1 at on stations and farmers’ field respectively. Plant height and base diameter was better than the check variety. This result revealed that BJC-5003 is better than CVL-1 in respect of fibre yield.

Objectives:

To evaluate the yield, adaptability and suitability at farmers plots and regional stations.

Methodology:

A plot of 5 decimal was divided into two equal halves, one portion was used for BJC-5003 and the other for CVL-1. The seeds of advanced line 5003 and check variety CVL-1 were sown on 31.03.2013. Intercultural operations was done in time simultaneously for whole plots as per recommendation. The crop harvested at 120 days after germination. Data were recorded on plant height, base diameter, fibre weight and stick weight at harvesting time.

The commercial existing variety CVL-1 was used as check . The advanced line BJC-5003 revealed higher yield which was about 3.77 percent and 4.23 percent higher yield than the check variety CVL-1 at on stations and farmers’ field respectively.
