A field experiment on Mustard-Mungbean-T. Aus-T. am an cropping pattern was conducted in the Grey Terrace Soil (AEZ 28) of Gazipur during the year of 2012-2013 with the objective of finding out suitable fertilizer combination for sustainable yield of the pattern, monitoring soil health as affected by chemical fertilizers and to make a balanced sheet of each nutrient. There were Eight different treatments viz. T1: 100% NPKSZn (STB), T2: T1+ 25% N, T3: T1+ 25% NP T4: T1+ 25% NK, T5: T1+ 25% PK, T6: T1+ 25% NPK, T7: 75% of T1 T8: Native nutrient were. The experiment was laid out in RCBD design with three replications. Data revealed that the yield of mustard (BARl Sarisha 14) grain yield was statistically influenced by the fertilize treatments. The highest grain yield of 1. 79 t ha-1 was obtained from the T6 treatment where 25% additional NPK was added over the 100 % OTB rate. This yield was statistically similar with that produced by all the other fertilizer treatments except the native nutrient treatment. The legume component mungbean (BARl Mung 6) produced up to 1.38 t ha-1 grain yield but the grain yield showed no treatment effect statistically. The green biomass incorporated into the soil ranged from 11.3 t ha-1 to 15.6 t ha-1.

  1. To find out judicious fertilizer recommendation for Mustard-Mungbean- T. aus- T. aman cropping pattern for sustainable yield,
  2. To monitor soil health after each cropping cycle, and
  3. To estimate uptake of different plant nutrients and make a balance sheet for each of the nutrients.

The field experiment was conducted at the central farm of Joydebpur (AEZ 28) during 2012-13. The initial soil samples, collected before establishing the experiment from a depth of 0-15 cm were analyzed in the laboratory following standard methods. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Eight different treatments viz. T1: 100% NPKSZn (STB), T2: T1+ 25% N, T3: T1+ 25% NP T4: T1+ 25% NK, T5: T1+ 25% PK, T6: T1+ 25% NPK, T7: 75% of T1 T8: Native nutrient were selected for different plots randomly. The unit plot size was 4m x 3m. Mustard crop (var BARI Sarisha 14) was used as test crop for the first component of the pattern. Mustard seeds were sown in line with 30 cm row to row on November 20, 2013. Fertilizer N-P-K-S-Mg and B were supplied from urea, TSP, MP, Gypsum, Magnesium sulphate and Boric acid respectively. All PKSMgB and 1/3 of N were applied at the time of final land preparation. The remaining two third of N were applied as top dress at 30 and 60 days after sowing. Three irrigation and other intercultural operations were done as and when required. The mustard was harvested on February 19, 2014. Data on yield and yield contributing characters were recorded and statistically analyzed. Duncan's Multiple Range Test (DMRT) was used to determine the significant differences between the treatments (Steel and Torrie, 1960). Plant samples and post harvest soil samples were collected from each plot for chemical analysis. After maize BARI Mung 6 was sown in the plots on February 27, 2014 and except the native nutrient all plots received 20 kg N ha-1. After two or three picking of the grains the green biomass was ploughed down into the soil and left for decomposition until the T.aus was transplanted. For T. aus rice, the variety Parija was used in the experiment. Transplanting was done on 22 May 2014 with a row to row spacing of 20 em and plant to plant spacing of 15 cm. The treatment combinations for rice showing fertilizer rates. All fertilizers including 1/3rd ofN were applied before transplanting. Rest of N was applied in two installments at 15 and 45 days after transplanting.

The field experiment on four crop based cropping pattern is conducted to find out a suitable fertilizer combination for higher and sustainable yield of the pattern. The third crop T. aus (Parija) is of its ripening stage in the field. Data obtained so far has little indication of any change in the fertilizer rates from the STB (100 %) values for mustard. Completion of the cycle may provide new information on the third and fourth crops.
