Field experiments were conducted to find the effects of nitrogen. sulphur and plant density on  growth attributes seed   and   oil  yields of  rapeseed Brassica campestris L. Leaf area index  (LAI) leaf area  duration (LAD) and  crop  growth rate (CGR) followed  a quadratic nature of relationship with  time.  Maximum LAl value was  recorded at 55 days which  decreased with  the  advancement of crop  age.  LAD and  CGR had  more  value  during reproductive phase but  RGR at vegetative phase, and  gradually declined at later stages. In general, Nat 120 kg and  density at 400 thousand plants/ha maintained high  LAI, LAD and  CGR values. The Stover,  seed and  oil yields Increased significantly upto  120 kg N/ha and  was at per with  higher rate. Density level at 400  thousand plants/ha significantly Increased the  seed  and oil yields. Growth parameters. stover, seed  and  oil yields progressively Increased with  the  increase of sulphur rates. CGR Increased as LAl increased and did not decrease until maximum LAI was obtained,  indicating the  absence of optimum LAI. Higher seed  yield  of 1846.00, 1670.92 and 1471.75 kg/ha were recorded with  the interaction effect of 400 thousand plants along with  120  kg N and 30  kg S/ha, 400  thousand plants In combination with 120  kg N/ha, and  400  thousand plants tn addition to 30 kg/S/ha respectively

To  find  the  effects of  N, S and PO  and their interactions on growth factors seed  and  oil yields  of rapeseed

The experiments were carried during Rabi (winter) seasons of 1988-89 and 1989-90 at Bangladesh Agricultural Institute (BAI). Dhaka on a medium high land, located at 23.70° N and 90.40°E with humid sub tropical climate. The soil was clay loam. having pH 5.5, organic carbon 0.83%, available N, P. K. and S 54, 68, 93 and 16 kg/ha respectively within a 30 em soil profile. The treatments comprised of four levels of nitrogen (N) -0, 60. 120 and 180 kg/ha, sulphur (S)- 0. 10, 20, and 30 kg/ha and plant density (D) - 100, 400. 700. and 1000 thousand plants/ha replicated three times in a split plot design. The plot size was 4.00 m x 3.90 m. The cultivar variety Sonali Sarisha ( B. compestris L.) was sown 30 em apart rows on 2nd November in two subsequent years. All plots received a based dressing of 80 kg P205 and 40 kg K20/ ha. Entire quantity of S and half amount of N were applied prior to sowing and rest half of N was top dressed at 50% flowering. Uniform plant densities of 3, 12, 21 and 30 plants / linear meter were established, which gave plant population of 10, 40, 70 and 100 plants/m2. Two irrigations were given, one at flower initiating s age (35 DAS) and the other at completion of siliquae setting (65 DAS). Total precipitation received during two subsequent seasons (November-February) were 162 and 20 mm in two instalments respectively. One hand weeding and light spading were given to the crop growth period. Aphids were controlled by spraying Ripcord 10 EC on 32 and 56 DAS. Sampling at 15 days interval was started 25 days after sowing (DAS). Growth analysis were done at various growth stages of 25, 40, 55, 70, 85 DAS and at harvest for leaf area index (LAI). leaf area duration (LAD). crop growth rate (CGR). relative growth rate (RGR) and net assimilation rate (NAR) . Five representative plants per replicate were harvested at ground level and stripped into component parts and dried in an oven at 80°C until a constant weight was obtained for total dry matter accumulation. For leaf area measurements ten leaves were randomly selected at different positions of test plants and their areas were measured with the help of leaf area meter (Model LI-3000 USA) and these were finally weighed after proper drying. The remaining leaves were oven dried and their area were computed on the basis of area to weight ratio of the same at each growth stage and was expressed as (cm 2) per square meter of the land area. From the total dry matter (TOM) accumulation and leaf area data, the different growth parameters were computed as per the procedure out lined by Radford (1967). Besides these data on seed stover and oil yields/ha were also recorded. The data were analyzed according to the standard method of analysis of variance technique for split-split plot design.

The  seed yield  was  significantly influenced by the  interaction effect  of N x PO, S x PO  and  N x S x PD. Nitrogen  significantly increased the  seed yield. Maximum seed  yield of 1670.92 kg/ha and  oil yield of 683.75 kg/ha were obtained with the combination effect of 400 thousand plants and <120  kg N/ha. PO at 400 thousand plants in addition to 30 kg S/ha produced maximum seed yield of 1471.75 kg/ha. Higher seed yield of 1846.00 kg / ha  was obtained with the higher order interaction of 400  thousand plants along  with 120 kg N and 30  kg S/ha. However, results revealed that reproductive phase is  the most crucial period  for development of different growth parameters,  so  at this stage crop  should be free from all kinds of stresses. Thus it appears that density at 400 thousand plants, N at 120 kg  and S at 30  kg/ ha cumulatively promoted different growth parameters. contributed positively towards storage reproductive phase, which in  turn resulted higher stover seed and  oil yields of rapeseed.
