Design a Check Valve for Stw and Its Test Performance-2005

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An encouraging result was found for using check valve in STW among the three locations. It develops the priming facility of STW and reduced the drudgery of STW starting frequently in the irrigation season. There was no significant difference on discharges and RPM of the pump before and after the installation of a check valve. It also developed the fitting-fixing facility of PVC and plastic pipe distribution system.

Objectives:

To develop the priming facility of STW;
To reduce the drudgery of STW starting;
To improve the fittings-fixing of PVC and plastic pipes for field operations; and
Cost-effectiveness of check valve.

Methodology:

Experiment was carried out in northern Bangladesh. conveyance loss was determined and identify the efficiency of hose pipe distribution system. To solve the problem of priming, the experiment was conducted at Kurigram, Pirganj, Thakurgaon and Vawal Mirzapur, Gazipur during 2004-2005 with the following treatments:T₁ = 125 mm x 100 mm diameter check valve with flat plate valve, T₂ = 125 mm x 100 mm diameter check valve with projected plate valve, T₃ = 150, mm x 100 mm diameter check valve with flat plate valve, T₄ = 150 mm x 100 mm diameter check valve with projected plate valve. For construction of valve, a rubber valve was setting on a GI pipe of same diameter of suction pipe. A pipe greater than minimum 50 mm diameter of the suction pipe and minimum 150-200 mm long was setting on a valve with flange joint, which facilitate to free movement of the valve. A check valve was setting with the STW depending on the type of pump joint of the tubewell. However, it is, check valve fittings must be leak proof.

Achievement/Findings:

It also developed the fitting-fixing facility of PVC and plastic pipe distribution system. It is concluded from the study that check valve reduce the drudgery of farmers for starting the STW through overcoming the priming problem and also facilitate the pipe distribution system in STW.
