A total of 120 Shaver starcross 579 laying hens were fed layer-layer 2 diets with multivitamins, 2 days/wk, 4 days/wk and 6 days/wk and without multivitamins (control) in the age duration from 47 to 51weeks to evaluate the efficacy of multivitamin supplementation. Records of feed intake, body weight, egg production were kept and egg quality parameters were calculated. Statistical analysis was performed using the program statgraphics for comparison among the different treatments. Daily feed intake has no effect on different treatments. Hen day egg production (HDEP) of different treatments differed significantly. Higher egg production was obtained in 6 days multivitamin supplemented group (85.24%) and similar at 4 days multivitamin supplemented group (84.81%) and lowest (76.78%) at control group. The highest egg weight was observed in 2 days multivitamin supplemented group (67.65%) and similar at 4 days (65.99%) and 6 days (66.06%) multivitamin supplemented group. The highest egg mass output obtained in 6 days multivitamin supplemented group (56.25%) from control group (49.71%). FCR value observed at control and 6 days multivitamin supplemented groups were 2.12 and 2.33 respectively. Similar protein efficiency was observed in 2 days (33.06) and 6 days (33.32) multivitamin supplemented group. The highest energy efficiency was obtained in 6 days multivitamin supplemented group (27.02). Similar energy efficiency was observed in 2 days (26.79) and 4 days (26.28) multivitamin supplemented group. Except egg shell thickness all external and internal egg quality traits did not differ significantly. At last, overall observations of the results showed that the use of multivitamins in water of caged layer has no effect on maintenance desirable production level.

1. To investigate the effect of supplementation of additional vitamins to drinking water in commercial layer for 2, 4 and 6 days per week on performance and profitability during summer season.

An experiment was conducted at the Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) Poultry Farm, Mymensingh with 120 Shaver Starcross 579 commercial layers of 47 weeks of old for a period of 4 weeks to evaluate the effect of multivitamin supplementation on their performance during summer. The birds were collected from Poultry Development Project, Department of Poultry Science, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh. The birds were randomly distributed into four treatments each of three replications. The dose of multivitamin supplementation for 2, 4 and 6 days/week consecutively in drinking water was 1g/10 liter water. Required feed for the experimental birds were purchased from the local agent of Aftab Bahumukhi Farms Ltd, Mymensingh. The multivitamin AascovitTM WS of Advanced Animal Science Co. Ltd. was purchased from local market, Mymensingh. The multivitamin AascovitTM WS supplied to the birds containing 100000000 IU Vitamin A, 25500000 IU Vitamin D3, 30000 mg Vitamin E, 16500 mg Vitamin K3, 12500 mg Vitamin B1, 12800 mg Vitamin B6, 22 mg Vitamin B12, 305000 mg Vitamin C (Repacked and Marketed by Advance Animal Science Co. Ltd). The hens were distributed randomly in 4 dietary treatments having 3 replications of 10 birds each. The four dietary treatments were T1 (control, without multivitamins), T2 (using multivitamins 2 days/wk.), T3 (using multivitamins 4 days/wk.) and T4 (using multivitamins 6 days/wk.). Feed was supplied adlibitum and fresh clean drinking water was available all the times. About 16 hours light was maintained during experimental period. The feed intake, body weight, egg production, egg weight, egg quality and return from selling of egg were calculated. The hens were fed on a layer diet containing 2800 kcal ME/kg, 17% CP, 5% CF, 3.6% Calcium, 0.35% Av. P and 11% moisture. All hens were fed 110g feed/bird/day throughout the experimental period. The birds were reared in cages with a concentration of 3 birds per unit (47cm x 46cm). A 60-watt electric bulb was fixed at the ceiling to additional light so that total light hour was 16 hours per day for maximum laying performance. Waterers were cleaned every morning and fresh clean cool water was supplied adlibitum. The initial body weight of birds were taken at starting and then at the end of the experiment with a sensitive balance. Weekly feed consumption of birds in each replication was recorded by subtracting the leftover feed from the total amount supplied to the respective replication. The number of eggs laid by the birds in each treatment and replication were recorded daily and their weight was noted just after collection in replication-wise. At the end of experiment one egg from each replication was randomly selected and was brought to the Poultry Science laboratory to measure the external and internal qualities of eggs. The protein and energy efficiency were calculated. Data for different variables were subjected to analysis of variance in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). Multiple comparisons were done where ANOVA showed significant difference.
