Regional Yield Trial of Indigenous Country Bean Lines

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An evaluation trial was carried out with advanced hyacinth bean lines with a check variety BARI Sheem-4 at Olericulture Division, HRC, BARI, Joydebpur,m Raikhali and Pharthali during September 2013 to March 2014 to observe the performance of the lines at different locations.Considering higher yield, number of pods/plant as well as bold seeded pod producing both the advanced lines DLP 002 and DLP 003 may be selected for next year RYT for confirmation.

Objectives:

To observe the performance of the lines at different locations.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at three different locations of BARI research stations during Rabi season of 2013- 2014. Seeds of two advanced hyacinth bean lines and BARI Seem-4 as check were sown on September 2013 in poly bag. Sixteen days old seedlings were transplanted into main maintaining 1.5m X 2.0m plant spacing. The experiment was laid out in RCB Design with three replications. Manures and fertilizers were applied @ 10 ton cowdung, 60 kg urea, 200 kg TSP and 150 kg MP per hectare. Half of the cowdung was applied during final land preparation. The remaining half amount of the cowdung, entire quantity of TSP and half of each urea and MP were applied during pit preparation. The rest of the urea and MP were applied as top dressing after 30 days of transplanting. Intercultural operations like support for the plant (Macha), irrigation, weeding, mulching and insecticides and pesticides were done as and when necessary. Data on yield and yield contributing characters were recorded properly and mean data were analyzed statistically.

Achievement/Findings:

Wide variation was observed among the locations in respect of number of pod and pod yield of advanced lines. On an average, the check variety BARI Sheem 4 produced the highest number of pod per plant (542) followed by DLP 002 (532) and DLP 003 (471). On the other hand, in respect of pod yield, the highest yield was obtained from the line DLP 002 (17.81 t/ha) closely followed by BARI Sheem 4 (17.15 t/ha) and DLP 003 (16 t/ha). Among the locations, in Pahartoli all the lines showed the best potentiality in respect of both number of pod and pod yield compared to other locations, while he lowest number of pods/plant and pod yield was obtained from Joydebpur for all the lines.Considering higher yield, number of pods/plant as well as bold seeded pod producing both the advanced lines DLP 002 and DLP 003 may be selected for next year RYT for confirmation.
