A Primordial Approach to Develop an Automated Irrigation System in Bangladesh

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An experiment was conducted to make the irrigation system automatic. A sample field was constructed and a drainage system was developed on the model field. The model field’s water percolation was nearly zero. In the entrance of each of the small unit of the field there was a sluice gate where on one side of the gate in different heights the sensors were used. A wire was used that runs from the controller to every electric value on the system. When water touches a particular height of the gate then the sensor sends signals to the controller. Then the controller sends signals to close the gate. The proposed model also closes the sluice gate when it is programmed in such a way that when water is reaching to a certain height the sensor will close the gate. This automated irrigation system will reduce the water loss, intensive labor use, costs of agriculture and finally will help to modernize the irrigation system.

Objectives:

1. A lab experiment was thought to see whether the irrigation system can be controlled through some electronic devices.

Methodology:

In the present study an imaginary field was drawn where the total field was divided in several units. Each unit has a specific gate in which an automatic water sensor device was placed and the sensor was connected with the control system through wire. A wire that runs from the controller to every electric value on the systems (sensor, gate). After the drawing of the planned area and it's devices a sample was created in a laboratory by using different equipment where the sensor was practically placed.

Achievement/Findings:

The experiment when can be implemented in the practical fields then this might reduce the water loss of agricultural lands.
