Evaluation of Relay Cropping of Grass Pea with T. Aman in Fallow-t. Aus-t. Aman Cropping Pattern in Medium High Land

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

To increase the system productivity, the study was undertaken at FSRD site Jagatpur, Habiganj Sadar in six dispersed farmers’ fields during T. Aman 2012 and T. Aman 2013. Two treatments viz. i) Grass pea (Relay)-T. Aus-T. Aman and ii) Fallow-T. Aus-T. Aman (existing) were evaluated in each farmer’s field. Improved pattern gave 0.50 t/ha higher REY and 7.10% higher gross margin than existing pattern in 2012-13 while 1.14 t/ha higher REY and 18.19% higher gross margin was found in 2013-14

Methodology:

Fallow-T. Aus-T. Aman is the major cropping pattern at FSRD site, Habiganj. Lands remain fallow after harvesting of T. Aman. Relay cropping of grasspea with T. Aman in Fallow-T. Aus-T. Aman cropping pattern may play an important role. To increase the system productivity, the study was conducted at FSRD site Jagatpur, Habiganj Sadar in six dispersed farmers’ fields during T. Aman 2012 and T. Aman 2013. Each farmer’s field was considered as one replication. Two treatments viz. i) Grass pea (Relay)-T. Aus-T. Aman and ii) Fallow-T. Aus-T. Aman (existing) were evaluated in each farmer’s field. The rice variety BRRI dhan46 and BRRI dhan48 was used in T. Aman and T. Aus in this experiment. For relay cropping, grass pea seeds were sown in the experimental plot 15 days before of T. Aman rice harvest. Date of seeding in 2012-13 for T. Aman and T. Aus was 14/07/12 and 06-07/05/13 and Date of Maturity in 2012-13 for T. Aman and T. Aus was 07/12/12 and 14-16/08/13 for Grass pea (Relay)-T. Aus-T. Aman pattern, respectively. Date of seeding in 2013-14 for T. Aman and T. Aus was 16/07/12 and 07-08/05/13 and Date of Maturity in 2013-14 for T. Aman and T. Aus was 08/12/12 and 15-16/08/13 for Grass pea (Relay)-T. Aus-T. Aman pattern, respectively. Date of seeding in 2012-13 for T. Aman and T. Aus was 12/07/12 and 04-06/05/13 and Date of Maturity in 2012-13 for T. Aman and T. Aus was 04/12/12 and 12-15/08/13 for Fallow - T. Aus - T. Aman, respectively. Date of seeding in 2013-14 for T. Aman and T. Aus was 14/07/12 and 05-06/05/13 and Date of Maturity in 2013-14 for T. Aman and T. Aus was 07/12/12 and 15-17/08/13 for Fallow - T. Aus - T. Aman, respectively.

Achievement/Findings:

A little bit higher rice equivalent yield was found in grass pea (Relay)-T. Aus-T. Aman pattern than Fallow-T. Aus-T. Aman pattern in both the year. Improved pattern gave 0.50 t/ha higher REY and 7.10% higher gross margin than existing pattern in 2012-13 while 1.14 t/ha higher REY and 18.19% higher gross margin was found in 2013-14.
