An experiment was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of different types of ABT rooting powder (ABT-3, ABT-6 and ABT-7) and doses (0, 25 , 50, and 75 ppm) on dry matter production (TDM) of Boro rice IRATOM-24. Root dry weight , stem dry weight , leaf dry weight, panicle dry weight and total dry matter hill-1 were significantly influenced by ABT rooting powder and their doses. The application of 50 ppm of all the ABT rooting powder produced the highest root dry weight hill-1 at all the sampling dates. The highest stem dry weight was obtained in 50 ppm of ABT-3, 6 & 7 at 30 and 63 DAT. The application of 50 ppm of ABT-6 and ABT-7 produced the highest total dry matter at 30 DAT At 63 DAT , 50 ppm of ABT-3 and ABT-7 and 25 ppm of ABT-6 produced the highest total dry matter hill-1. The concentration of 50 ppm of ABT- 3 produced the highest TDM at 91 DAT which was statistically similar to 25 ppm or ABT-3. Finally ABT-7 showed the highest TDM in the 50 ppm dose. The application of 50 ppm of ABT-3 and ABT-7 showed significantly increased leaf dry weight at 91 and 108 DAT. All the treatments of ABT-3 , 6 and 7 showed significant increment of dry matter production whereas only 50 ppm of ABT-3 and 25 ppm of ABT-6 produced the highest panicle dry weight at 108 DAT.

To study the effectiveness of ABT rooting powders and their doses on dry matter production of Boro rice.

The experiment was conducted at the experimental field of Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA), Mymensingh during Boro season in 1998. three types of ABT rooting powder viz . ABT-3 , 6 and 7 were used in the study using three different doses 0, 25, 50 and 75 ppm . The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design with four replications . The unit plot size was 2 m x 2m. The fertilizers were applied @ 85, 25 and 40 kg/haN, P and K, respectively. At the time of final land preparation the whole amount of P and K was applied as TSP and MP. Nitrogen as urea was applied in three equal splits at 10, 30 and 50 days after transplanting , respectively . For preparation of stock solutions of ABT-3, 0.1 g powder was completely dissolved in 50 ml of 95% ethanol and then distilled water was added to make the volume to one liter. This solution gave the concentration of 100 ppm (Tao, 1991). From this 100 ppm solution, different concentrations of ABT -3 i.e., 25 ppm, 50 ppm and 75 ppm solutions were prepared by diluting the solution. ln case of stock solutions for ABT-6 and ABT-7, distilled water was used to dissolve the same amount of powder (Tao, 1993b). According to treatments, seeds were soaked in ABT solutions for 24 hours. Distilled water was used to sock for similar duration treated as control. After soaking seeds were sown in the seedbed. Thirty day-old seedlings were transplanted in plot with a spacing of 20 cm x 15 cm on February 9, 1998. Two healthy seedlings hill- 1 were transplanted. The intercultural operations such as weeding, irrigation and pesticides application were done when ever necessary. Four sampling were done at 30, 63, 91 and 108 days after transplanting (DAT). Ten random hills from each plot  were up-rooted. The plant parts such as root , leaf, stem and pani cle (after panicle initation ) were separated . The samples were dried in oven at 80° C for 72 hours. The oven dried samples were weighed by digital electronic balance. The data were recorded on root dry weight , stem dry weight , leaf dry weight , panicle dry weight and total dry matter weight .  Anlyses of variances were done using the computer software programme MSTAT-C. The treatment means  were compared by Duncan's Multiple Range Test (Gomez and Gomez, 1 984) .

From this study it could be concluded that ABT rooting powder and their doses had significant effect in root dry weight hill - 1 , stem weight hill - 1 , leaf dry weight hill-1 as well as total dry matter hill - 1 . The results clearly indicated that the application of 50 ppm of ABT-6 and ABT-7 is optimum dose for the higher production of dry matter of mutant variety Iratom-24.
