An experiment was conducted to measure the effect of chemical weeding and hand weeding on the yield performance of transplant amanrice cv BRRI dhan39. Twelve weed species were found in the experimental field. To fulfil the objectives 20 weed control treatment combinations of Ronstar@ 2.0 L ha-1 & 1.0 L ha-1 Emchlor@ 20 kg ha-1 & 10 kg ha-1 2,4-D amine @ 1.70 L ha-1 & 0.85 L ha-1 Rifit@ 1.0 L ha-1 0.50 L ha-1 l-hand weeding, 2-hand weeding, weed free and no weed control were tried. Among the treatments three pre- emergence type and one post-emergence type herbicides were applied to the assigned plots on 6 DAT and 22 DAT. Except 1000-grain weight and harvest index, all the crop characters like plant height, number of tillers hill-1 number of effective tillers hill-1 number of non-effective tillers hill-1 number of spikelets panicle-1, number of grains panicle-1 grain yield, straw yield and biological yield were significantly affected by weed control treatments. The highest grain yield were obtained in weed free treau.icnt(4.16 t ha-1), Ronstar@ 1.0 L ha-1 + l-hand weeding at 30 DAT (4.08 t ha-1) and 2-hand weeding at 30 DAT &50 DAT, respectively (3.96 t ha-1 all of which are statistically similar. Similarly, the highest straw yield (4.76 t ha-1) was recorded from the weed free treatment followed by Ronstar@ 2.0 L ha-1 (4.20 t ha-1). Therefore an integrated approach of chemical weed control and manual weeding comprising Ronstar@ 1.0 L ha-1 applied at 6 DAT followed by l-hand weeding at 30 DAT to be the best weed control treatment in transplant aman rice.

To assess the effect of different weed control measures on yield and yield contributing parameters of transplant aman rice

The experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field Laboratory, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensigh during the period from June to November 2006 using BRRI dhan39 as planting material. The experimental field belongs to the Old Brahmaputra Floodplain (AEZ-9) with Sonatola soil series of non-calcareous dark grey floodplain soil. The soil was slightly acidic in nature with 1.29% organic matter content. The rice variety used in the experiment requires about 122 days from seeding to maturity. The variety gives an average yield of 4.5 tons ha-1. Twenty treatment combinations were used in the experiment in which 4 herbicides, 2 manual weeding, one weed free and a control treatment were included. The herbicides used in the experiment were Ronstar 25 EC (Oxadiazon), Emchlor 5G (Butachlor), 2,4-0 amine (2,4-0 amine salt) and Rifit 50 EC (Pretilachlor) which are systemic in nature. Ronstar 25 EC was applied @ 2.0 L ha-1 & 1.0 L ha-1 on 6 DAT with 500 litre water by hand sprayer. The same method was followed for Rifit50 EC @ 1.0 L ha-1 &0.50 L ha-1 concentrations. In case of Emchlor 5G @ 20 kg ha-1 &10 kg ha-1 was broadcast on DAT and 2,4-0 amine was applied @ l.70 L ha-1 &0.50 L ha-1 on 22 DAT with 500 L water by hand sprayer. In all cases herbicides were applied in 4-5 cm standing water in the plots. In case of manual weeding treatment it was included l-hand weeding at 30 DAT and 2-weeding at 30 & 50 DAT, respectively where as in weed free treatment weeding was done by hand when they were found. No weeding activities were performed in weedy control treatment. The experiment was laid in a randomized complete block design with three replications. The size of the individual plot was 4.0m x 2.5m and total numbers of plots were 60. Treatments were assigned in unit plots at random. The spacing between the unit plot and the replications were 0.75m and l.0 m respectively. Except weeding, different management practices and intercultural operations were done following standard methodology.
