Preliminary Yield Trial with M3 Mutants of Nerica-10 Under Rainfed Condition in Aus Season

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

All the mutants matured 20 days earlier than the parent NERICA-10 and produced significantly higher grain yield than the parent. Highest grain yield was 5.4 t ha^-1 and it was found in the mutant RM-N₁₀-40(C)-1-7 followed by RM-N₁₀-40(C)-1-5 (5.1 tha^-1) and RM-N₁₀-40(C)-1-1 (4.8 t ha^-1).

Objectives:

To assess earliness and grain yield of M₃ mutants of NERICA-10 in Aus season under rainfed condition

Methodology:

This experiment was carried out with seven mutants derived from carbon ion beam irradiation to NERICA-10 to assess earliness and grain yield in Aus season. Seeds were sown on 16 March and transplanted on 10 April 2014 following RCB design at BINA Head quarters farm, Mymensingh. The size of a unit plot was 1.5 m x 0.80 m. Seedlings were transplanted at 15 cm distance within rows of 20 cm apart. Recommended doses of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, sulphur and zinc were applied in the form of Urea, TSP, MOP, Gypsum and Zinc Sulphate. Cultural and intercultural practices were followed as and when necessitated. Data on plant height, number of effective tiller, panicle length, and filled and unfilled grains panicle^-1 were recorded after harvest from 5 randomly selected competitive plants. Maturity was assessed as plot basis.

Achievement/Findings:

Three mutants, RM-N₁₀-40(C)-1-7, RM-N₁₀-40(C)-1-5 and RM-N₁₀-40(C)-1-1 were selected on the basis of early maturity and higher yield under rainfed condition.
