The initial version of Star-Cum-Cono Weeder was improved with locally available materials in the workshop of the Department of Farm Power and Machinery, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh. The weeder was tested in the experiment field under the Department of Farm Power and Machinery to evaluate its functional and economical parameters on the basis of weight, pushing force, weeding efficiency, percent of breakage of rice tiller, field capacity, cost analysis and compare with initial version of Star-Cum-Cono Weeder and BRRI weeder. The weight of the improved version of Star-Cum-Cono Weeder, initial version of Star-Cum-Cono Weeder and BRRI weeder were 5.56 kg, 8.61 kg, and 4 kg, respectively. Due to less weight, it would be easy to carry to and from the field and required moderate force in weeding operation. The pushing force of the improved version of Star-Cum-Cono Weeder, initial version of Star-Cum-Cono Weeder and BRRI weeder were 23.43 N, 56.24 N and 20.93 N, respectively. The weeding efficiency and percent of breakage of the improved version of Star-Cum-Cono Weeder were 81.5% and 1.78 respectively which was better than initial version of Star-Cum-Cono Weeder (61.17% and 16.37) and BRRI weeder (71.67% and 3.45). The field capacity of the improved version of Star-Cum-Cono Weeder, initial version of Star-Cum-Cono Weeder and BRRI weeder were 0.018 ha/hr, 0.011 ha/hr and 0.20 ha/hr, respectively. The operating cost of the improved version of Star-Cum-Cono Weeder was 2135 Tk/ha which was comparatively lower than initial version of Star-Cum-Cono Weeder and BRRI weeder. Therefore the improved version of Star-Cum-Cono Weeder is the better options among initial version of Star-Cum-Cono Weeder and BRRI weeder in term of force requirement, weeding efficiency and economic operation.

1. To improve the initial version of star-cum-cono weeder for wet land, and 2. To evaluate the performance of the improved version of star-cum-cono weeder, BRRI weeder and initial version of star-cum-cono weeder for wet land.

The following points were taken into consideration for designing the improved version of star-cum-cono weeder i. Distance between row to row and hill to hill. ii. The weeder should have better shape and arrangement of the blades on the cones. iii. The weeder should be simple in construction. iv. It should have simple and easy adjustment. v. It should be made with locally available materials with simple technology. vi. It should be light in weight and easy to operate. vii. It should be suitable for operation by a single person. viii. It should be easy to repair and maintenance.
