Varietal effect was not significant in case of grain yield at Gournadi. But, fertilizer effect was statistically significant in producing grain. Again, grain yield was statistically influenced by the interaction of variety and fertilizer management practices. Local cultivar Muta Kazla and Lal Kazla produced slightly higher grain yield with rice crop manager (RCM) than farmers practice (FP). Rice crop manager produced significantly higher grain yield than that of FP during cultivating BRRI dhan28, BRRI dhan29, BRRI dhan47 and BRRI dhan50. Local cultivar Kazla produced slightly higher grain yield with rice crop manager (RCM) than farmers practice (FP). Rice crop manager produced significantly higher grain yield than that of FP during growing BRRI dhan29, Shakti and Super. Varietal effect was significant in case of grain yield at Barisal Sadar. Fertilizer management effect was also statistically significant in producing grain. But, grain yield was not statistically influenced by the interaction of variety and fertilizer management practices. Rice crop manager produced significantly higher grain yield than that of FP with all the cultivated varieties.

The study was conducted to evaluate the field specific fertilizer guideline obtained from rice crop manager compared to farmer's fertilizer management in Barisal region during Boro season.

An Experiment was conducted in 72 farmer’s field at Gournadi, Agailjhara and Uzirpur of Barisal district during Boro season. The treatments were i) Rice crop manager (RCM) based fertilizer management, and ii) Farmer’s practice (FP). We followed randomized complete block design. Farmers transplanted high yielding inbred as well as hybrid varieties. Some farmers also grew locally popular some cultivars. The cultivated inbred varieties were BRRI dhan28, BRRI dhan29, BRRI dhan47, BRRI dhan50 and BINA dhan8. The hybrids were Shakti and Hira 2. The local popular varieties were Lal Kazla, Muta Kazla and Kazla. The age of seedling varied from 41 to 56 days. Transplanting time ranged from 1st week of January to mid February. For calculating fertilizer for rice crop manager (RCM) a questionnaire was developed and interviewed each farmer. Required amounts of NPK were applied through urea, triple super phosphate (TSP) and muriate of potash (MOP), respectively. Full dose of TSP and MOP were applied during final land preparation. Urea was applied at 3 to 4 splits. Irrigation, weeding and pesticides were applied when necessary. Monitoring was done through frequent field visits and keeping close contact with respective farmers during the crop growing period. Grain yields were obtained from a central 5m2 harvest areas in each sampling plot at harvest able maturity and were adjusted to 14% moisture content.
