Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Homestead in Bangladesh is the most effective and common production unit for supplying food, timber and other family needs and employing family labours. Baseline survey showed that, yield of different fruit trees in homestead area is poor due to use of local varieties and inappropriate management. To improve the nutritional status and to maximize productivity of homestead area, this program was initiated. Saplings of BARI coconut-1 and BARI Aam-3 were distributed among the 12 participating farmers of Chakhar and Boliarkathi of Barisal region. Survival rate of saplings was 100%. Farmer’s response was very encouraging. Growth of saplings was satisfactory.

Methodology:

From baseline survey, yield of different fruit trees in homestead area is poor due to use of local varieties and inappropriate management. To improve the nutritional status and to maximize productivity of homestead area, this program was initiated. Saplings of BARI coconut-1 and BARI Aam-3 were distributed among the 12 participating farmers of Chakhar and Boliarkathi of Barisal region on 7 August 2012 with recommended management practices.

Achievement/Findings:

Survival rate of saplings among the participating farmers was 100% and farmer’s response was very encouraging observing survival rate of saplings.
