Small Scale Sonali Chicken Rearing in the Farmer’s Household Under Village Condition

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

To empower the women as well as to increase the farm income, ten Sonali chicken birds were given to each of the twelve participating farmers of Chakhar and Boliarkathi village of Barisal district maintaining 2:8 male female ratio. Irrespective of farmers’ and village, on an average Sonali breed gained 800 g body weight per bird during the period of 3 months. Farmers were interested about this new breed. Improved chicken rearing under scavenging cum supplementary feeding with proper management (vaccination, de-worming, treatment etc) condition created a positive impact among the farmers.

Objectives:

Methodology:

In Chakhar and Boliarkathi village of Barisal district, ten Sonali chicken birds were given to each of the twelve participating farmers maintaining 2:8 male female ratio. The routine works of vaccination were followed regularly and natural feeds were fed ad-libitum. Egg production and body weight were monitored regularly. Each farmer was supplied with one feeder and one waterer. Technical supports and advice were given regularly.
