Farmers’ Participatory Evaluation of Integrated Rice-fish Culture in T. Aman Season

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

There are some medium low lands with T. Aman in Habiganj FSRD site. This type of land has the potentiality of fish cultivation that can increase the systems productivity. Hence, an attempt was initiated to increase the productivity of rice land by integrated fish in T. Aman rice. In T. Aman season, rice-fish culture gave significantly higher REY (rice equivalent yield) than the sole rice culture. Rice-fish culture gave 18% higher REY and 11% higher gross margin than the sole rice culture.

Objectives:

To increase the productivity of rice land by integrated fish in T. Aman rice.

Methodology:

An attempt was initiated to increase the productivity of rice land by integrated fish in T. Aman rice at RFS site jagatpur, habiganj sadar in three dispersed farmers’ fields during T. Aman 2012. Each farmer’s field was considered as one replication. Two treatments: i) sole rice culture and ii) integrated rice-fish culture were evaluated in each dispersed farmer’s field. BRRI dhan46 and Thi sorputi were used for conduct the experiment.

Achievement/Findings:

Farmers were very much positive with the findings of the study. Rice-fish culture gave significantly higher REY than the sole rice culture. Rice-fish culture gave 18% higher REY and 11% higher gross margin than the sole rice culture in T. Aman season.
