Mass Vaccination of Cattle, Goat and Poultry

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Due to existing of traditional systems and prevalence of different fatal diseases throughout the year, rearing and production of cattle, goat, chicken, duck and pigeon in rural areas of Bangladesh are decreasing day by day. Scheduled vaccination of livestock and poultry throughout the year can minimize the disease incidence to a great extent. The ultimate outcome of vaccination is to increase the number and production of livestock and poultry which can provide additional income. Results showed that after vaccination, the mortality rate reduced significantly. Mortality rate was zero among the selected farmers.

Objectives:

To increase the number and production of livestock and poultry

Methodology:

Scheduled vaccination of livestock and poultry throughout the year can minimize the disease incidence to a great extent. The ultimate outcome of vaccination is to increase the number and production of livestock and poultry which can provide additional income. To increase the number and production of livestock and poultry, routine vaccination of cattle and goat against Anthrax, Black Quarter, PPR and poultry against New castle disease, Duck Plague and Duck Cholera in the selected villages was done in Chakar and Boliarkathi of Barisal district during 2012-13. Number of vaccinated cattle, goat and poultry was 145, 109 and 625, respectively in Chakar and 200, 80 and 550 cattle, goat and poultry in Boliarkathi. Before vaccination, in Chakar, the mortality rate was 6%, 3% and 40% in cattle, goat and poultry, respectively while rate of mortality in Boliarkathi was 8%, 2% and 36% in cattle, goat and poultry, respectively.
