Efficacy of four fungicides for the management of Alternaria blight (Alternaria brassicicola) of cabbage seed crop was tested in a field experiment during 2000-2001 cropping season. The test fungicides were Rovral 50 WP (Iprodione), Dithane M 45 (Mancozeb), Bavistin 70 WP (Carbendazim) and Tilt 250 EC (propiconazole) and they were sprayed alone or in different combinations. All the fungicides alone or in combinations significantly reduced the disease severity and increased seed yield and yield components. However, the significantly highest disease reduction with maximum seed yield and yield component were recorded when Rovral was applied alone or in combination with other fungicides followed by Dithane M 45. The control plot yielded 178 pods per plant. However, the pod number per plant in fungicide treated plots was higher but not significantly from that of control plot. The highest seed yield of 376 kg/ha was obtained from Rovral treated plot followed by Dithane treated plot ((327 kg/ha).

An investigation was undertaken to test the efficacy of fungicides to control Alternaria blight of cabbage seed crop.

The experiment was conducted during winter season of 2000-2001 at BSMRAU farm, Gazipur. There was altogether nine treatments as T1=Rovral, T2=Dithane M 45, T3=Bavistin, T4=Tilt, T5=Robral+Dithane, T6=Rovral+Bavistin, T7=Rovral+Tilt, T8= Robral+Dithane+Bavistin+Tilt, T0=Plain water (control). The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block design with three replications. Suspension of Tilt 250 EC was prepared @ 1ml/L water (0.1%) and Rovral 50 WP, Dithane M 45 and Bavistin 70 WP were prepared @ 2g/L (0.2%) in tap water. Forty days old seedlings were transplanted in the field on 1 November 2000. Ten seedlings were transplanted in each plot in two rows. Spraying of fungicides was started just after onset of disease at an interval of 12 days and continued up to pod maturity stage. In the treatments where more than one fungicides used, fungicides suspension was prepared separately and sprays were applied none after another with al least 2 hours interval. At maturity, five plants from each plot were randomly selected and tagged for data collection and harvested for seed. Data on PDI of leaf spot, percent pod infection, number of spot per pod, percent pod area diseased, seed yield and yield component, seed quality and health were recorded.

All the fungicidal treatments applied on standing crop alone or in different combinations gave significant reduction in severity of Alternaria blight. The lowest PDI was recorded in the plots treated with Rovral + Dithane M 45. However, the efficacy of treatments receiving Rovral alone or in combination with other fungicides significantly reduced PDI as compare to control. The effect of fungicidal treatments on number of spot per pod was highly significant; and the significantly lowest pod infection was recorded in plots treated with Rovral alone followed by Rovral + Dithane M 45. The lowest pod area diseased was recorded in plots treated with Rovral alone followed by Rovral + Tilt treated plots. The control plot yielded 178 pods per plant. However, the pod number per plant in fungicide treated plots was higher but not significantly from that of control plot. Except Bavistin alone, all other fungicidal treatments significantly increased pod length and number of seed per pod compare to control. The significantly highest pod length was recorded in plots sprayed with Rovral alone. The highest 1000-seed weight was found in Rovral + Dithane treated plots. Seed infection with Alternaria spp. was maximal in seeds of control plot and the lowest incidence of Alternaria was recorded in seed from the plots sprayed with Rovral+Dithane+Bavistin+Tilt treated plots. The highest seed yield of 376 kg/ha was obtained from Rovral treated plot followed by Dithane treated plot ((327 kg/ha).
