Dr. Debi Narayan Rudra Paul
PSO and Head
Agricultural Statistics Division, BRRI

Experiments are being conducted in the T. Aman and Boro seasons with BRRI released rice varieties since T. Aman 2001-02 and Boro 2002 in Gazipur and different regional stations. The number of varieties is 27 and 25 in T. Aman and Boro season respectively. The design used is RCB with three replications and the effective plot size (harvest area) is 5-x-2 m2 leaving the boarder. Recommended crop management practices are followed. The newly developed stability model was used to analyse the data. In T Aman, BR22 yielded highest in Comilla (5.24 t/ha) and Rajshahi (5.35 t/ha); BR23 in Barisal (4.71 t/ha) and BRRI dhan32 in Gazipur (5.48 t/ha) and Sonagazi (5.42 t/ha). In Boro, the highest yield was obtained for BRRI dhan29 in Barisal (9.52 t/ha), Rangpur (8.43 t/ha), Bhanga (7.97 t/ha), Satkhira (7.74 t/ha) Comilla (6.60 t/ha) and Hobiganj (6.19 t/ha). BR14 and BR16 were the highest yielding varieties in Rajshahi (6.40 t/ha) and Gazipur (5.91 t/ha), respectively.

  Analysis and interpretations
  1. To develop and/or standardize the model for stability analysis of BRRI varieties,
  2. To determine the stability index of  BRRI released varieties and
  3. To maintain season, year and location-wise database on BRRI varieties.

Experiments were conducted in T.Aman and in Boro, 2001-02 at BRRI HQ Gazipur and at different   Regional Stations. In T. Aman, 4 Regional Stations viz. Sonagazi, Rajshahi, Barisal and Comilla and in Boro, 7 Regional Stations viz. Rajshahi, Rangpur, Satkhira, Bhanga, Barisal, Comilla and Hobiganj were involved. 16 T.Aman varieties and 20 Boro varieties were grown BRRI recommended crop management practices. The design was RCB with three replications. In all cases, plant spacing was 20-x20-cm and plot size was 3-x-2 m2 leaving two rows as boarder.

The yield of the varieties in T Aman was quite similar in Gazipur and Sonagazi but varied largely in other locations. In case of Boro, variation in yield level was relatively less in Comilla and Hobiganj except varieties BR2, BR15, BRRI dhan35 and BRRI dhan36 compared to other Regional Stations. The results of analysis of variance (ANOVA) of yield in T. Aman and Boro revealed a high degree of interaction between variety and location (GxE) meaning that none of the varieties performed equally well in all locations. The interaction (GxE) is more clearly exhibited, which indicated that BRRI released varieties (rice) are more responsive to environment in the Boro than in the T. Aman season. However, except for BR8 and BRRI dhan28, Barisal, Bhanga and Rangpur environments in the Boro season are relatively more favorable for achieving a higher yield than other locations.
