Determination of Minimum Number of Fungicide Spray in Controlling Alternaria Blight of Mustard.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Seeds of BARI Sarisa 14 were sown on first week of November 2012 in three replicated plots of 2.5 m x 2 m laid out in RCBD. Two fungicides (selected from last year study) namely, Rovral 50 WP (0.2%) and Indofil (0.2%) were sprayed separately. The spray schedule was, T₁= one spray of Rovral at 35 days after sowing (DAS), T₂= one spray of Indofil at 35 DAS, T₃= two spray of Rovral at 35 and 50 DAS, T₄= two spray of Indofil at 35 and 50 DAS, T₅= three spray of Rovral at 35, 50 and 65 DAS, T₆= three spray of Indofil at 35, 50 and 65 DAS, T₇= Control (plain water spray). The highest disease reduction with maximum per hectare seed yield was obtained from plots where Rovral was sprayed three times followed by two times Rovral spray. However, all the treatments gave significant disease reduction with significant higher yield compare to control plot.

Objectives:

The present study was therefore, undertaken to find out the minimum number of fungicide spray to obtain maximum yield by controlling Alternaria .blight of mustard.

Methodology:

The study was conducted at ORC Gazipur, RARS Jamalpur and ARS Burirhat, Rangpur during 2012-2013 rabi season. Seeds of BARI Sarisa 14 were sown on first week of November 2012 in three replicated plots of 2.5 m x 2 m laid out in RCBD. Two fungicides (selected from last year study) namely, Rovral 50 WP (0.2%) and Indofil (0.2%) were sprayed separately. The spray schedule was, T₁= one spray of Rovral at 35 days after sowing (DAS), T₂= one spray of Indofil at 35 DAS, T₃= two spray of Rovral at 35 and 50 DAS, T₄= two spray of Indofil at 35 and 50 DAS, T₅= three spray of Rovral at 35, 50 and 65 DAS, T₆= three spray of Indofil at 35, 50 and 65 DAS, T₇= Control (plain water spray). The crop was allowed to grow under natural infection condition. Irrigation and other cultural practices were done as and when necessary. Leaf) and pod spot severity was recorded 10 day before harvest the crop. Both leaf and pod spot severity was recorded according to Bakr et al. 2010. For recording data on disease development yield contributing characters, 10 plants in each plot were randomly selected and tagged and harvest separately. Data on number of pod/plant, Number of seed/pod and seed yield per plant and per plot were recorded. Yield. (t/ha) data was computed on the basis of plot yield. The incidence and severity of diseases were recorded according to Bakr et al. (2010).

Achievement/Findings:

The results of the experiments are presented in table 26, 27 and 28 indicated that the highest disease reduction with maximum per hectare seed yield were obtained from plots where Rovral was sprayed three times followed by two times Rovral spray. However, all the treatments gave significant disease reduction with significant higher yield compare to control plot. Application of fungicides to control the disease was appeared to be profitable and the highest net profit of Tk. 9826 was obtained from the treatment of two spray of Indofil followed by two spray of Rovral (Tk. 8020). Considering benefit cost ratio the fungicide Indofil at two spray was found to be highly economic ( BCR 3.4) followed by Rovral and Indofil at one spray ( BCR 2.6 and 2.4, respectively).
