Determination of Minimum Fungicides Spray Against Onion Purple Blotch Disease

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The field trials were conducted at ORC Gazipur, RARS Jamalpur and SRSS Faridpur during robi 2012-2013. Seedlings of BARI Piaz 1 were planted on first week of December 2012 in 2.5m x 2m plots laid out in RCB design with 3 replications. Two effective fungicides (selected from last year study) namely, Rovral 50 WP (Iprodione) and Revanon 50 WP (Iprodione), were sprayed @ 0.2% three times at 15 days interval. The treatments were: T₁= one spray of Rovral at 40 days after transplanting, T₂= one spray of Revanon at 40 days after transplanting, T₃= two sprays of Rovral at 40 and 55 days after transplanting, T₄= two sprays of Revanon at 40 and 55 days after transplanting, T₅= three sprays of Rovral at 40, 55 and 70 days after transplanting and T₆= three sprays of Revanon at 40, 55 and 70 days after transplanting. All the treatments reduced the disease severity compared to control treatment. The highest disease reduction with maximum yield was obtained where Rovral was sprayed three times followed by two times spray. The highest bulb yield (8.1 ton) per hectare was recorded from plots where Rovral was sprayed two times. The fungicide Rovral at two spay was found highly profitable (BCR 4.77).

Objectives:

The present study was undertaken to find out the minimum number of fungicide spray to control Onion purple blotch and finally to obtain maximum yield in Onion

Methodology:

The field trials were conducted at ORC Gazipur, RARS Jamalpur and SRSS Faridpur during robi 2012-2013. Seedlings of BARI Piaz 1 were planted on first week of December 2012 in 2.5m x 2m plots laid out in RCB design with 3 replications. The crop was allowed to grow under natural infection condition. Irrigation and other cultural practices were done as and when necessary. Two effective fungicides (selected from last year study) namely, Rovral 50 WP (Iprodione) and Revanon 50 WP (Iprodione), were sprayed @ 0.2% three times at 15 days interval. The treatments were: T₁= one spray of Rovral at 40 days after transplanting, T₂= one spray of Revanon at 40 days after transplanting, T₃= two sprays of Rovral at 40 and 55 days after transplanting, T₄= two sprays of Revanon at 40 and 55 days after transplanting, T₅= three sprays of Rovral at 40, 55 and 70 days after transplanting and T₆= three sprays of Revanon at 40, 55 and 70 days after transplanting. A Control (Plain water) treatment was also maintained for comparison. Data on disease severity was recorded according to Bakr et al (2009). Yield per plot was recorded and per hectare bulb yield was computed based on plot yield.

Achievement/Findings:

From the results of the three locations it is evident that on an average all the treatments reduced the disease compared to control treatment. The highest disease reduction with maximum yield was obtained where Rovral was sprayed three times followed by two times spray. The highest bulb yield (8.1 ton) per hectare was recorded from plots where Rovral was sprayed two times followed by three spray of Rovral. Application of fungicides to control the disease was appeared to be profitable and the highest net profit of Tk. 39520 was obtained from the treatment of two spray of Rovral followed by three spray of Rovral (Tk. 28530). Considering benefit cost ratio the fungicide Rovral at two spay was found to be highly profitable ( BCR 4.77) followed by one and three sprays of Rovral ( BCR 2.86 and 2.81, respectively).
