A field experiments was conducted to study the comparative effect of plant nutrition on Bipolaris leaf blight (Bipolaris sorokiniana) of wheat. There were ten treatments viz. T1= control (without fertilizer and Cowdung), T2= Cowdung 5 t/ha, T3= N80P17K40S12Zn1, T4= T3+T2, T5= N80P17K40S12Zn1B2+T2, T6= N80P17K40S12 Zn1B3+ T2, T7= N120P35K80S40Zn5, T8=T7+ T2, T9= N120P35K80S40Zn5B2+ T2 and T10= N120P35K80S40Zn5B3+ T2. Among the treatments T10 and T9 resulted minimum leaf blight severity of flag leaf and penultimate leaf respectively at three-growth stage namely flowering stage, milk ripening stage and hard dough stage. Treatment T9 showed the best performance regarding number of ears/plot and of grains/ear. Maximum number of healthy grains/ear was found in T6 and T9 and maximum number of diseased grains/ear found in T7. Maximum value of 1000-grain weight (g) was recorded in T8. Highest grain yield (t/ha) and straw yield (t/ha) was recorded in T9 which increased 160.15% grain yield over control.

To find out the effect of different levels of some nutrient elements on leaf blight (Bipolaris sorokiniana) and grain yield of wheat.

The experiment was carried out during the period from November 2004 to April 2005 in Field Laboratory, Department of Plant Pathology, Sher-E- Bangia Agricultural University, Dhaka, Under Tejgaon soil series in Madhupur Tract (AEZ-28) following randomized complete block design (RCBD). There were ten treatments viz. T1= control (without fertilizer and Cowdung), T2= Cowdung 5 t/ha, T3= N80P17K40S12Zn1, T4= N80P17K40S12Zn1+Cowdung 5 t/ha, T5= N80P17K40S12Zn1B2+Cowdung 5 t/ha, T6= N80P17K40S12 Zn1B3+Cowdung 5 t/ha, T7= N120P35K80S40Zn5, T8= N120P35K80S40Zn5+Cowdung 5 t/ha, T9= N120P35K80S40Zn5B2+Cowdung 5 t/ha and T10= N120P35K80S40Zn5B3+Cowdung 5 t/ha. Different treatments were assigned randomly to the unit micro plot (1m x1m) having three replications. The sources of fertilizer used for N, P, K, S, Zn and B were urea, TSP, MP, gypsum, zinc-oxide and borax, respectively. Except nitrogen all fertilizer and cowdung were applied to the experimental plot as per treatments during final land preparation. N- fertilizer was applied in equal splits: firstly during final land preparation, secondly and thirdly at active tillering stage and panicle initiation stage, respectively. A susceptible wheat variety "Kanchan" was used in this study. The seed were sown in the field on December 15, 2004 at the rate of 120 kg / ha. The row to row distance was 20cm, which made 5 rows in each unit plot. Weeding and irrigation was performed twice during the growing period of the plot. First weeding was done at 25 DAS (days after sowing) and second weeding was done at 45 DAS. First irrigation was done at 26 DAS and second at 50 DAS. No plant protection measures were used for this study. Randomly three plants were tagged for each row. So, 15 plants/plot were tagged for rating and mean values were determined to get rating score of the material of each treatment. Leaf blight severity of flag leaf and penultimate (2nd from top) leaf were recorded in three growth stages of plant viz. flowering stage, milk ripening stage and hard dough stage following a 0-5 scale. Number of ears/plot was recorded during the soft dough stage. The mature crop was harvested and data on yield and yield contributing characters were recorded. The data were analyzed and the treatment means were compared by Duncan's multiple range test.
