Parshuram Upazila is situated in the northern part of Feni district. It lies under the AEZ No. 29 (Northern & Eastern Hill) and AEZ No. 22 (Northern-Eastern piedmont plain). In this Upazila major land type recognized was medium high land comprising 71.5% of total area followed by high land comprising 14.1% of the total area. Major textural classes identified were loam covering 43.0% of total area followed by clay loam (24.2%) and clay (16.5%). Eight soil groups were identified namely Salban, Rangamati, Bijipur, Feni, Pahartali, Shuvapur, Pritimpasha and Manu. In highland Pahartali, Rangamati & Feni covers major area while in medium highland, Pahartal & Manu covers major area. According to local agro ecology suitable crops identified were rabi & kharif vegetables, , rabi maize, mustard, soybean, sunflower, lentil, mungbean, sesame, watermelon, onion, garlic, ginger, turmeric, potato, brinjal, sweet gourd, bottle gourd, bean, yardlong bean, lady’s finger, chilli, tomato, cabbage, cauliflower, boro (HYV/Local), transplanted aus (HYV), transplanted aman rice(HYV/Local), fruit trees like jackfruit, sugarcane, papaya, lemon, lichi and perennial timber like eucalyptus, gamari, mehegani, chapalish & teak. Kawn, gram, blackgram, kharif maize, kharif chilli, transplanted aus (local), jute (local), banana and mango were identified as moderately suitable crops. Three major cropping patterns namely Boro-Fallow- T.aman ; Rabi & Kharif vegetables; Fallow-Fallow-T.aman were identified. Fertilizer recommendations for suitable crops are given in the guide.This guide can be used for determining flood, drought, landslide, soil erosion, river bank erosion. Demonstration site selection for technology transfer and local level development planning can be done with the help of this guide. Upazila land and soil resources carrying capacity can be estimated which would help in determining food deficit or surplus of the area.
