Genotype Versus Environment Effect on Amylose and Protein Content

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Genotype-environment interaction performance was investigated on amylose and protein with 20 BRRI rice varieties combinations in 9 environments. G × E interaction were significant for amylose content, protein content. This suggests a number of variability’s among the genotypes and environments as and the indicated genotypes interacted significantly with environments.

Objectives:

To see the Genotype versus environment effect of BRRI varieties on amylose and protein content

Methodology:

Twenty BRRI varieties were grown by Agricultural Statistics division at 9 regional stations of BRRI to see the stability of the BRRI varieties over locations. Samples from the replicated trials were collected by GQN division The laboratory analysis was conducted at Grain Quality and Nutrition Division of Bangladesh Rice Research Institute, Gazipur. Milled rice out turn was determined by dehulling 200 g rough rice in Satake Rice mill, followed by 75 second polishing in a Satake grain testing mill TM- 05. The samples were analyzed for Amylose and Protein and the data were subjected to a combined analysis. Amylose content was determined. Based on amylose content, milled rice was classified as waxy (1-2% amylose), very low (>2-9% amylose), low (>9-20% amylose), intermediate (>20-25% amylose) and high (25-33% amylose). Protein content was determined by micro Kjeldahl method.

Achievement/Findings:

BR16 showed highest mean amylose content of 28.7% and BR2 showed the lowest value of 22.1%. BR6 showed highest mean protein content of 6.7% and BRRI dhan29 showed the lowest value of 6.12%.
