Long-term Missing Element Trial at BRRI Farm 2013-14

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was initiated in 1985 at BRRI farm Gazipur on a permanent layout with the objectives to study soil fertility status and rice response behavior in nutrient stress and its reverse response of fertilizer due to its addition in same soil conditions. In the year 2013-14, BRRI dhan49 and BRRI dhan29 grown in T. Aman and Boro season, respectively. The study results showed that, omission of any major nutrient significantly reduced grain yield of rice compared to complete treatment. In T. Aman 2013, PM + IPNS produced a little bit higher grain yield than complete treatment. In Boro 2014 season, application of PM + IPNS gave significantly high grain yield (6.69 t/ha) than control and even omission plot but it was statistically similar with complete fertilizer and other organic treatments. Effect K rates on grain yield of MV rice were clearly visible in Boro and T. Aman. Application of K @ 80 kg/ha produced higher grain yield (6.43 t/ha) in Boro and T. Aman (4.22 t/ha). PM + IPNS is a good fertilization option for rice cultivation in BRRI farm. Grain yield significantly increased with increasing of K rates. Zinc and S are not deficient in BRRI farm soil.

Objectives:

To study yield response behavior in both nutrient stress and optimum conditions for finding out nutrient use-efficient genotypes

Methodology:

The experiment was initiated on a permanent layout at BRRI farm Gazipur in 1985. In the year 2013-14, the experiments having 12 treatments assigned in a RCB design with four replications. In the year 2013-14, BRRI dhan49 and BRRI dhan29 grown in T. Aman and Boro season, respectively. The treatments are NPKSZn@138/100-7-80-3-5 kg/ha, NPSZn (-K), NKSZn (-P), PKSZn (-N), Cow dung (3 t/ha) + IPNS fert., NPKS (-Zn), NPKZn (-S), PM (2 t/ha) + IPNS fert., NPKSZn. @ 138/100-7-60-3-5 kg/ha, Oil cake (2t/ha) + IPNS fert., NPKSZn @ 138/100-7-40-3-5 kg/ha, and Control. NPKSZn @ 100-7-80-3-5 kg/ha was used in T. Aman 2013 and it was 138-7-80-3-5 kg/ha in Boro 2013-2014. Urea N was applied in three equal splits at final land preparation, at active tillering and at 5-7 days before PI. Rest of the fertilizers was applied at final land preparation. Only N @ 138 kg/ha was applied as top dress with organic amended treatments. For grain yield, crop was harvested at maturity and recorded at 14% moisture content and straw yield was recorded as oven dry basis

In Boro 2014 season, application of PM + IPNS gave significantly high grain yield (6.69 t/ha) than control and even omission plot but it was statistically similar with complete fertilizer and other organic treatments. Aman 2013, the highest total N and P uptake was found with the application of PM + IPNS treatment. The K uptake was found highest in the MOC + IPNS which was identical to PM + IPNS treatment. In Boro, N and P uptakes were higher in CD + IPNS and it was statistically similar PM + IPNS and OC + IPNS. Potassium uptake was higher in complete fertilizer which was significantly higher than K @ 60 and 40 kg/ha but there was no significant difference among lower K dose on its uptake in Boro season.
