The experiment was initiated in Boro 2008-09 at BRRI farm Gazipur to evaluate the effects of fertilizers and INM under continuous wetland culture on soil health and productivity. In Boro-Fallow-T. Aman pattern, BRRI dhan29 and BRRI dhan49 and in Boro-T. Aus-T. Aman pattern, BRRI dhan29, BRRI dhan43 and BR22 were used. Fertilizers doses were: Control, STB dose (NPKS @ 160-25-60-20 kg/ha for Boro, 70-12-48-10 kg/ha for T. Aus and 84-15-54-14 kg/ha for T. Aman), STB50% + MM (cow dung 2 t/ha+ash 1 t/ha as oven dry basis), and Farmers’ practice (NPKS @ 80-10-20-10 kg/ha for Boro, 70-10-15-0 kg/ha for T. Aus and 70-10-15-0 kg/ha for T. Aman). Cumulative yield of triple cropping was always higher than double cropping irrespective of treatments and seasons. In T. Aman 2013 under triple cropping, 50%STB+MM produced significantly higher yield than STB and FP. In double cropping, 50%STB+MM produced the highest grain yield that was significantly higher than 100%STB. Grain yield of Boro 2013-14 under double cropping pattern increased in STB dose and 50%STB+MM compared to Boro 2012-13. In T. Aus 2014, the highest grain yield was found in 50%STB+MM which was identical with 100%STB. It may be concluded that 100%STB and INM are good options for obtaining higher rice yields in double or triple rice cropping pattern.

To evaluate the effects of fertilizers and integrated nutrient management under continuous wetland culture for sustainable soil health and productivity.

The experiment was initiated in Boro 2008-09 at BRRI farm Gazipur in a clay loam soil. In Boro-Fallow-T. Aman pattern, BRRI dhan29 and BRRI dhan49 were used as test variety. In Boro-T. Aus-T. Aman pattern, BRRI dhan29, BRRI dhan43 and BR22 were used as test variety. Fertilizers used were: T1 = Control, T2 = STB dose (NPKS @ 160-25-60-20 kg/ha for Boro, 70-12-48-10 kg/ha for T. Aus and 84-15-54-14 kg/ha for T. Aman), T3 = STB (50%) + Mixed manure (MM) (cow dung 2 t/ha + ash 1 t/ha as oven dry basis), T4 = Farmers’ practice (FP, NPKS @ 80-10-20-10 kg/ha for Boro, 70-10-15-0 kg/ha for T. Aus and 70-10-15-0 kg/ha for T. Aman). The experiment was laid out in a RCB design with three replications. Urea-N was applied in three 3 equal splits at final land preparation, at active tillering stage and at 5-7 days before PI stage. Rest of the fertilizers was applied at final land preparation. Grain yield was recorded from 5 m2 areas at the center part of each plot and 16 hills were collected for straw yield. The grain yield was recorded at 14% moisture content and straw yield as oven dry basis.

The application of fertilizer and manure has significant effect on rice yield over control treatment. In T. Aman 2013 under triple cropping pattern, 50% STB+MM produced significantly higher yield than STB dose and FP. In double cropping, 50% STB+MM treatment produced the highest grain yield that was significantly higher than 100% STB dose. However, cumulative yield of triple cropping was always higher than double rice cropping pattern irrespective of treatments. Annual maximum production (11.70 t/ha) was obtained with 50% STB+MM treatment in triple cropping pattern. Grain  yield of Boro 2013-14 as 11th crop under double cropping pattern increased in STB  dose and 50% STB+MM treatment compared to Boro 2012-13 (9th crop). However, this trend was not observed under triple cropping pattern. The yield scenario of Boro 2013-14 (16th crop) indicated that grain yield of Boro rice under triple rice cropping decreased over time compared to double cropping except in farmer’s practice. In T. Aus 2014, the highest grain yields was found in 50% STB+MM treatment which was identical with 100% STB dose. It may be concluded that 100% STB dose and INM are good options for obtaining higher rice yields in double or triple rice cropping pattern.
