This study was conducted at BRRI Gazipur in Boro season during 2002-2014. The objective of this study was to develop and release of premium quality rice variety with earliness, good grain quality and high yield potential for Boro season. National Seed Board of Bangladesh has approved the recommendation of technical committee to release the proposed line BR7358-30-3-1 as BRRI dhan63 for Boro season in 2014. Plant height of the variety is 85 cm with 150 days growth duration. It has erect flag leaf and dark green leaf. The variety is lodging tolerance. It is photo-insensitive and 10 days earlier than BRRI dhan29. The variety showed approximately 0.5-1.0 t/ha higher yield with 4-6 days earlier growth duration of BRRI dhan50. Average yield is about 7.0 t/ha and grain size is extra-long slender and premium quality rice with non-shattering characteristics. Export quality and fine grain as Basmati type of India and Pakistan. The amylose content of the variety is intermediate (24.0%) and protein content is 8.2%. The variety is the fine grain Boro rice with export quality grain type as Basmati.

  1. To develop premium quality rice variety with earliness, good grain quality and high yield potential for Boro season.

This study was conducted at BRRI Gazipur in Boro season during 2002-2014. This variety was developed through hybridization followed by pedigree selection method. It is BRRI developed line with pedigree BR7358-30-3-1 (Amol-3/BRRI dhan28). After fixation of the genotype, several experiments i. e. Observational Trial (OT), Preliminary Yield Trial (PYT), Secondary Yield Trial (SYT) and Regional Yield Trials (RYT) were conducted under on-farm and on-stations. Advanced Line Adaptive Research Trial (ALART) was conducted at 10 locations viz. Gazipur, Jessore, Rangpur, Comilla, Dinajpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Habiganj, Faridpur and Barisal to evaluate of promising breeding lines for their adaptability in different agro-ecological conditions for releasing as variety. Finally the Proposed Variety Trial (PVT) was done in nine locations (Mymensingh, Comilla, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Habiganj, Kushtia, Satkhira, Bhanga, Faridpur and Sonagazi, Feni) using BRRI dhan50 as standard check for on-farm evaluation of the proposed line by the NSB team for the recommendation of release as a new variety. The field evaluation team of the National Seed Board (NSB) compared the performance of this genotype with that of BRRI dhan50. The NSB has approved to release the proposed line BR7358-30-3-1 as variety.
