Energy Indices of a Wheeled Tractor for Tillage Operation

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Relationship of wheelslip as a function of traction coefficient has been established graphically both for ploughing and harrowing. Wheelshlip, traction coefficient, tractive efficiency and energy requirement per unit of tilled area determined experimentally as a function of theoretical speed of a 4 WD tractor to prove the validity of the theoretical consideration for various tillage operations.

Objectives:

The present study aims at determining the energy indices of a 4WD tractor for ploughing and harrowing in sandy loam soil

Methodology:

A 4WD tractor TZ-4K-14 of 10 kW was used to conduct the field experiment. The tractor was instrumented with a 12 channel oscilloscope KI2-22, amplifier TOPAZ-3, strain gauge transducer 2PKB-T20-200 and two batteries 6STM-50 (12V each). The oscilloscope was assigned to record signals as obtained from strain gauge transducers through amplifier for axle torque and rotational speed of the four drive wheels. To each semi-axle of the drive wheels strain gauge transducer was set up. The oscilloscope was calibrated with the help of a metallic arm dynamometer DOSM-3-1 and hydraulic After calibration the tractor was aggregated with a mounted moldbcard plough and spike toothed harrow of width 25 and 85 crn, respectively for tillage operations in the paddy fields of 30 m long. The tractor was operated in the three gear speeds. The soil was of sandy loan type having cone penetration resistance of 0.25 to 6 MPa and density of 1000 to 1900 kg/m^-1 (Sale que 1984) at a moisture content of 15 to 30% (d.b.). The oscillogram of axle torque and rotational speed of the drive wheels for ploughing and harrowing were procesed and analysed an instrument POBD 12A and IBM computer.

Achievement/Findings:

For the theoretical speed (in the 1st gear) VI = 0.65 mis, the other parameters were calculated as: dimensionless parameter Z = N; 1 GVt = 10000/8809,38 x 0.65 = 1.75, tractive efficiency '71 = '7,., (I-b) (l-f IZ'7", '7;) = 0.88 (1- 0.24) (1-0.09/1.75xO.88xO.90) = 0.62, specific draught resistance of plough k; = ko + k} (b) VI =6903.20 + 1534.40 (1-0.24) x 0.65 = 7661.19 N/m, energy requirement per unit of tilled area E = k; 1 '71 = 7661.19/0.62 = 12.36 kJ/m². Similarly, all the above mentioned parameters can be determined for the 2nd and 3rd gears of tractors and for harrowing.
