An experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of Kuratar 5G (Curbofuran), mustard oil cake and poultry refuse to control root-knot nematode of pointed gourd in the farmer’s field. The experimental design was Randomized Complete Block with two replications. The treatments were Poultry refuse at the rate of 5 t/ha at 15 days before planting, Mustard oil cake at the rate of 1.25 t/ha at 15 days before planting, Kuratar @ 45 kg/ha or 20 g/plant, Poultry refuse at basal + Kuratar at 45 days after planting, Mustard oil cake at basal + Kuratarat 45 days after planting and Untreated / control.  The vine was planted maintaining 1.5m row to row and 2.0m plant to plant distance. The organic material was allowed to decompose for 15 days after application to the experimental field before planting. The results of the present investigation indicated that the combination of nematicide like kuratar, poultry refuse and mustard oil cake can effectively controlled root-knot nematodes as well as increased yield and yield contributing characters significantly. Chemical nematicide alone is effective in controlling nematode incidence but failed to increase plant growth characteristics substantially.

The present study was undertaken to evaluate the effect of nematicide and organic soil amendments for the management of root-knot nematode of pointed gourd.

 

Kuratar 5G (Cubofuran), mustard oil cake of and poultry refuse were evaluated for management of root-knot nematode of pointed gourd in the farmer’s field during 2003-04 crop season at Bondovilla, Jessore. The present experiment was started during November30, 2003. The experimental design was Randomized Complete Block with two replications. Total number of plant was 18 in each plot. The vine was planted maintaining 1.5m row to row and 2.0 m plant to plant distance. The organic material was allowed to decompose for 15 days after application to the experimental field before planting. Recommended doses of manure and fertilizers were used and   intercultural operations like weeding, irrigation and mulching were done as and when necessary to raise the crop.

The treatments used in the experimental fields were:

T1 =. Poultry refuse at the rate of 5 t/ha at 15 days before planting, T2 = Mustard oil cake at the rate of 1.25 t/ha at 15 days before planting, T3 = Kuratar @45 kg/ha or 20 g/plant, T4 = Poultry refuse at basal + Kuratar at 45 days after planting, T5 = Mustard oil cake at basal + Kuratarat 45 days after planting and T6 = Untreated / control

Data were recorded on Number fruits/plant, weight /fruit, total number of fruits/plot, weight of fruits/plot and fruit size (cm2). For estimating root-galling, plants were uprooted carefully, root systems were washed under running tap water and indexed for severity of root-knot using (0-10) scoring scale.

All the treatments used in the experiment were superior over control. The lowest nematode incidence indicated by lowest gall index was resulted from kuratar treated plots. However, it was statistically identical with kuratar + organic substrate treated plots. The highest number of fruits/plant was obtained from poultry refuse + kuratar followed by kuratar + Mustard oil cake, respectively. In case of weight/fruit, poultry refuse + kuratar and kuratar alone gave significantly higher yield over control. In case of size of fruit, significantly highest size was obtained from Mustard oil cake than other treatments. There was no significant variation in mustard oil cake + kuratar and control plot. Poultry refuse + Kuratar gave significantly higher yield. The effect of poultry refuse, mustard oil cake and kuratar on yield was statistically identical but significantly lower than poultry refuse + kuratar. Considering above results poultry refuse + kuratar was found most effective control measures than others. The percent yield ranged from 2.81-24.87. The results of the present investigation indicated that the combination of kuratar and organic substrates can effectively controlled root-knot nematodes as well as increased yield and yield contributing characters significantly. Chemical nematicide alone is effective in controlling nematode incidence but failed to increase plant growth characteristics substantially
