The experiment was initiated in T Aman 2005 at BRRI farm Gazipur to evaluate the soil test based fertilizer doses for maximum rice yield. Six treatments were tested following RCB deign, viz. T1 = Absolute control, T2= Inorganic fertilizer on STB (STB dose: NPKS @ 87-16-19-10 kg/ha for T. Aman season and 130-26-30-17 kg/ha for Boro season), T3=20% less than T2, T4=20% higher than T2, T5=T2 + poultry manure (PM)@ 2 t/ha and T6 = T2+ rice straw @ 2 t/ha. Integration of chemical fertilizer, organic manures (PM) and crop residues (RS) significantly increased the grain yield of T. Aman and Boro rice. The trend of increase was more distanced in Boro than T. Aman season. The treatment in 20% higher than STB, slightly increased the grain yield during T. Aman. Similar trend was also found in Boro season. STB in addition with PM and RS exhibited positive effect on rice yield of 6.70 and 6.22 t/ha during Boro season. Residual effect of PM and RS (RS@ 2t/ha) with STB fertilizer dose had some yield advantage over STB but advantage was not significant. In the chemical fertilized plots there was an apparent negative balance for N and K. The balances for P and S were positive. After the completion of three crop cycles organic carbon, total N, available P were increased due to integration of chemical fertilizer with manure and crop residue application.

To evaluate the soil test based fertilizer doses for maximum rice yield

The experiment was initiated in T. Aman 2005 at BRRI farm Gazipur in clay loam soil. The soil pH was  5.7, organic carbon (1.16%), total N (0.11%), available P 9.69 ppm, exchangeable K 0.22 meq/100g soil, available S 15.98 ppm and available Zn 2.69 ppm. Six treatments viz. T1 = Absolute control, T2= Inorganic fertilizer on STB (STB dose: NPKS @ 87-16-19-10 kg/ha for T. Aman season and 130-26-30-17 kg/ha for Boro season), T3=20% less than T2, T4=20% higher than T2, T5=T2 + poultry manure (PM)@ 2 t/ha and T6 = T2+ rice straw @ 2 t/ha. The experiment was laid out in RCB design with 3 replications. The test varieties were BRRI dhan31 and BRRI dhan29 for T. Aman and Boro season, respectively. Urea-N was applied in three 3 equal splits at final land preparation, at active tillering stage and at 5-7 days before PI stage. Phosphorus, K and S fertilizers were applied at final land preparation. The unit plot size was 6 m x 3.2 m. At maturity, grain yield was recorded from 5 m2 areas at the center part of each plot and 16 hills were collected for straw yield. The grain yield was recorded at 14% moisture content and straw yield as oven dry basis. N content of the samples were determined by micro Kjeldahl distillation method. P and and K content of these samples were determined using standard laboratory procedure.

Integration of chemical fertilizer, organic manures (PM) and crop residues (RS) significantly increased the grain yield of T. Aman and Boro rice. The trend of increase was more distanced in Boro than T. Aman season. The treatment where 20% higher than STB slightly increased the grain yield (4. 65 t/ha), while 20% less than STB significantly decreased the grain yield (4.16 t/ha) than full dose of STB fertilization during T. Aman. Similar trend was also found in Boro season. Soil test based fertilization in addition with PM and RS exhibited positive effect on rice yield of 6.70 and 6.22 t/ha during Boro season. Residual effect of PM and RS (RS@ 2t/ha) with STB fertilizer dose had some yield advantage over STB but advantage was not significant. Addition of organic manures plus chemical fertilization increased the nutrient use efficiency for maximum rice production. In the chemical fertilized plots there was an apparent negative balance for N and K. The balances for P and S were positive. After the completion of three crop cycles organic carbon, total N, available P were increased due to integration of chemical fertilizer with manure and crop residue application.
