Overall Evaluation of the Training Course on Fisheries Extension

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An investigation was conducted with the participants of the training course on Fisheries Extension in order to assess the suitability and usefulness of the course, overall training management and knowledge gain from the training. The findings of the study indicated that the trainees were satisfied with the course contents and course administration. Acquisition of knowledge through the training programme was found to be significantly high.

Objectives:

i) To know the personal profile of the trainees in respect of age, educational qualification, length of service, organizational problems and extent of training received before attending the course. ii) To assess the suitability and usefulness of the course including performance of the trainees regarding gain in subject-matter knowledge. iii) To know the opinion of the participants about course contents and management aspects along with suggestions for improvement of such course in the future.

Methodology:

The present study was conducted with 'l view to assess the overall effectiveness of the training programme on Fisheries Extension in relation to course administration, knowledge gained by the participants and the opinion of the trainees towards training management. A semi-structured questionnaire was provided to each of the participants to obtain pertinent information from them regarding the above issues. Opinion of the trainees were also obtained through informal discussion with the participants. Knowledge gain by the trainees was assessed through two sets of questionnaires. Paired t-test was performed to find out if there was any significant difference in the gain of knowledge from this training.

Achievement/Findings:

An overall evaluation of the training under discussion indicates that the opinions and beliefs of the participants were fairly satisfactory towards the course contents and other managerial aspects of the programme. As the out come of the training, a high increase in term of knowledge gain was evidenced which may be considered as a positive indicator of success of the programme. The consistency of information received from the respondents in different aspects of the training showed a high level of reliability. Since, it is difficult to find all answers to all relevant questions in a single study, care was given to provide information to those queries only as dictated in the objectives.
