A field experiment was conducted to find out the effects of different doses of three pesticides viz. Dimecron, heptachlor and sevin on the nutrient concentration in leaf at different growth stages and in straw and grain of maize (Zea mays). The concentration of N in leaf at both tasseling and silking stages decreased with double the recommended dose of heptachlor and increased with that of sevin. However, no definite trend of Variation in P concentration in leaf at tasseling, straw and grain due to different doses of individual pesticides was observed. Potassium concentration in leaf at both stages decreased with double the recommended dose of dimecron and increased with that of heptachlor and sevin. All the three pesticides with double the recommended dose decreased the K concentration in straw and Ca concentration in leaf at tasseling and generally increased Mg concentration in leaf at both stages, straw and grain. The pesticides caused a significant variation in N, P, K,Ca and Mg concentration in leaf at both stages and K, Ca and Mg concentration in straw and grain.

To find out the effects of different doses of three pesticides viz. dimecron, heptachlor and sevin on the nutrient concentrations in leaf at different stages of growth and in straw and grain at maturity of maize.

A field experiment was conducted in the farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka. Composite and bulk soil sample from the field was collected from a depth of 0 - 15 cm. The collected Soil was air dried, ground and passed through a 2 mm sieve. The pH of the soil was 6.1; texture was silt loam; organic matter content was 0.86% and cation exchange capacity was 7.60 cmol kg-1 soil. It contained 45 ppm available N and 13.85 ppm avilable P. 1N NH4OAc extractable Na, K, Ca and Mg contents were 0.47, 0,52,1.23 and 0.40 cmol kg-1 soil, respectively. Soil analysis were done according to standard methods . The soil was of medium fertility status . Fertilizers at the rate of 100 kg N (Urea), 50 kg P2O5 (Tripple Super Phosphate), 30 kg K2O (Murate of Potash) and 8 kg S (Gypsum) per hectare were applied in the field. According to BARC recommendation, 1/3 N and whole of P, K and S fertilizers were applied during final land preparation- The second dose of i/3 N was applied after 30 days and the remaining N was applied after 60 days of seedling emergence. The experiment was arranged in a randomized complete block design with three replicaitons. The treatments used are shown in Table I . Seeds of maize were sown in plots of 4m x 3m size with line to line spacing of 75 cm and hole to hole distance of 25cm. Two to three seeds were sown in each hole. One healthy plant in each spot was kept after 15 days of seedling emergence. Dimecron, heptachior and sevin were applied after 40 days of seedling emergence. Plant samples (leaves) were collected at tasseling (the entire leaf fully developed below the whorl) and silking (the entire leaf at the ear-node or immediately below or above it) stages. The crop was harvested at maturity. Collected straw and grains were oven dried at 65°C. The samples were analyzed for total N, P, K, Ca and Mg after grinding. Total nitrogen of the plant samples were determined by Kjeldahl method as described by Jackson . Plant materials werdetermination of P, K, Ca and Mg. Phosphorus in the digest was measured by ascorbic acid blue colour method . Potassium was determined by Flame Analyzer Gallenkamp) and Ca and Mg were measured by Atomic Absorption Spectophotometer (Hitachi 170-30).Necessary statistical analysis were done to evaluate the effects.e digested with H2SO4-HClO4 mixture  for the determination of P, K, Ca and Mg. Phosphorus in the digest was measured by ascorbic acid blue colour method . Potassium was determined by Flame Analyzer Gallenkamp) and Ca and Mg were measured by Atomic Absorption Spectophotometer (Hitachi 170-30).Necessary statistical analysis were done to evaluate the effects.
