Fattening of Animals Through Feeding Intervention

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The growth rate of local young bull¬s under improved feeding practices after 75 days of trials showed that the weight gain ranged from 960 gd-1 to 1310 gd-1 on an average bulls of supplementary of A group performed better than those of others. This is shown in Table1.1 and Table 1.2 Economic performance of bull fattening is presented in Table 1.3 and 1.4.By investing around Tk.25653 to 26778 within 75 days through fattening of young bulls.Supplementation of concentrated freed (wheat bran: rice polish: mustard oil cake @ 25:25:50) in an amount of 1 kg per day may be practiced for fattening of cattle.

Objectives:

To disseminate beef fattening technology in the site and adjoining area.
To ensure year round cash money to the farmers through animal fattening

Methodology:

The experiment was carried out at Purbo Tethulia with 18 young bulls of different ages. The bulls were raised under free grazing in the haor grassland and with supplementary feeds supplied by the Project .The growth performance of the bulls were measured for a period of 75 days .All preventive measures were taken for supplementary group to control infectious diseases. The roughage and forage came from grazing of bulls and supplementary concentrate from extra source. Data on body weight were recorded at fortnightly interval. The fortnight body weight were measured by heart-girth method. Weight of bull (lb) = (G2×L)/300 When G is girth and L is the body length from shoulder portion to pin bone. The factor 0.4536 used to convert these in inches into kilogram.

Achievement/Findings:

Many farmers showed keen interest to be involved to this type of activities. Farmers utilized this technology for cash income. Farmers were interested to continue this program one as an income generating activity for improving their livelihood.
