An experiments was carried out in Low Ganges River Floodplain Soil at Pulse Research Sub-Station, BARI, Madaripur during three subsequent year of 2006-2007, 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 to evaluate the performance of local genotypes of field pea (Pisum stivum) for searching of high yielding and diseases resistant variety. The six selected local genotypes viz. PR (Chaity), PR (Maghee), TM (Chaity), TM (Maghee), LN (Chaity) and Bagha Rajshahi were included in this trial. The land was prepared properly. The experiment was laid out in RCBD with three replications. Results revealed that among the genotypes, PR (Chaity) gave the highest yield (1636 kg/ha, 1652 kg/ha and 1056 kg/ha) and showed low disease reaction in the year of 2006-07, 2007-08 and 2008-09. On the other hand during Rabi season of 2006-2007 the genotype Bagha, Rajshahi gave the lowest yield (1113 kg/ha) and the genotypes LN (Chaity) and TM (Maghee) were produced lowest grain yield (927 kg/ha) and (743 kg/ha) during year of 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 respectively. So, the genotype PR (Chaity) might be considered for selecting as a suitable and adaptive material for cultivation in Bangladesh.

The objective of the study was to evaluate the collected field pea germplasm with desirable agronomic characters and disease resistant as well as high yield for cultivation in Bangladesh

The experiment was conducted in Low Ganges River Floodplain Soil (AEZ 1 12) at Pulses Research Sub-Station (PRSS), Madaripur in the Rabi season of three subsequent years of 2006-07, 2007-08 and 2008-09 to evaluate the performance of local genotypes of field pea (Pisum stivum) for searching of high yielding and diseases resistant variety. Six genotypes of field pea were collected from four places of Pangsha, Rajbari, Takerhat, Madaripur, Lohagora, Narail and Bagha, Rajshahi) viz. PR (Chaity), PR (Maghee), TM (Chaity), TM (Maghee), LN (Chaity) and Bagha Rajshahi, respectively. The land was prepared through tractor driven disc plough and rotavator in three times. The entries were laid out in RCBD with three replications. Unit plot size was 4m x 3.2m with the spacing of 40 cm x 10 cm. Recommended dose of fertilizers were applied properly as urea (40 kg ha-1), TSP (80 kg ha-1), MoP (45 kg ha-1), gypsum (20 kg ha-1), zinc sulphate (7 kg ha-1) and boric acid (7 kg ha-1), respectively after final land preparation. Seeds (30 kg ha-1) were sown 20-25 November of 2006, 2007 and 2008, respectively. Two weeding were done at 18 to 31 January, 2007, 10 to 28 January, 2008 and 20 to 30 January, 2009, respectively. The crop was harvested within 110 to 120 days after sowing in the year of 2007, 2008 and 2009, respectively. Data on yield contributing characters were recorded from 10 randomly selected plants from each plot. Diseases were scored through 1-9 scoring scale. Seed yield (kg ha-1) was recorded from the whole plot technique.  The data were analyzed statistically using IRRISTAT.

Under the three years research trial altogether six field pea genotypes were evaluated for their performance of grain yield and reaction to powdery mildew under natural epiphytotic conditions. The genotypes of field pea showed significant variation in plant height (cm), number of pods plant-1, number of seeds pod-1, 100-grain wt. and grain yield (kg ha-1). Among the six field pea genotypes PR (Chaity) showed better performance in plant height, number of pods per plant, number of seeds per pod and grain yield. It was showed tolerance to the disease of powdery mildew. Considering the highest grain yield and low disease reaction, the genotype PR (Chaity) could be selected for releasing as a variety of field pea.
