To find out the productivity and profitability with different spacings and to select suitable variety for the late T. Aman season at BRRI Farm, Gazipur in 1996. The tested varieties were BR22, BR23 and Nizersail and three spacings were 20 cm x 20 cm, 20 cm x 15 cm and 15 cm x 15 cm. Results revealed that BR23 yielded the highest followed by BR22 and Nizersail at all spacings. On the other hand, the highest yield was obtained from the spacing of 15cm x 15 cm followed by 20 cmx 15cm and 20cm x 20cm spacings. BR23 also gave the highest straw yield at all spacings and, BR22 and Nizersail showed statistically similar effect at 20cm x15cm and 15 cm x15 cm spacings. BR23 gave the highest number of panicle and grains followed by BR22 and Nizersail. The gross return and BCR wre the highest in 15cm x15 cm, followed by 20cm x 15 cm and 20cm x20cm spacing. The highest BCR indicated that 15cm x15cm spacing was profitable for MV rice in the late T. aman season. Therefore, BR23 and 15cm x15cm spacing for modern variety and 20cm x20cm spacing for Nizersail can be used in the late T. aman season.

The experiment was conducted at the BRRI Farm, Gazipur in 1996 to find out the productivity and profitability with different spacings and to select suitable variety for the late T. Aman season. The tested varieties were BR22, BR23 and Nizersail and three spacings were 20 cm x 20 cm, 20 cm x 15 cm and 15 cm x 15 cm. Transplanting was done on 15 September, however, the optimum time of transplanting was up to 15 August during T. Aman season. The study was set in a RCB design with three replications. The unit plot size was 4m x5m. Three to four seedlings per hill of 40-days old were transplanted and fertilized with 60-40-40 N- P2O5-K2O kg ha-1 for BR22 and BR23 and 30-20-20 N- P2O5-K2O kg ha-1 for Nizersail from urea, TSP and MP. All P2O5, K2O and one third of N were applied as basal and the rest of N was applied as two equal splits , one at 20 DAT and other at 30 DAT. All other intercultural practices were followed.
