Effect of Doses and Time of Ga3 Application on Hybrid Rice Seed Production of Promising Hybrids

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Dosages of GA₃ and its time of application is very important for hybrid rice seed production. Appropriate dose with its time of application and frequency of application is a determinate factor for good seed harvest. Knowledge of GA₃ application with its time and frequency ensure good seed yield. Twelve treatments are used in this experiment and among them higher seed yield (533 kg/ha) was obtained from the treatment applying 40 ppm GA₃ @ per ha at 5% and 35-40 % flowering stages

Objectives:

To find out the effective dose of GA3 and its time of application on hybrid rice seed production.

Methodology:

One CMS line (BRRIIA) along with its two restorers (BR168R) was grown as parental materials. Restorer was sown in three different date at five days interval and CMS line was sown along with second set of its respective R line. After ten days, fertilizers were applied @ 7 gm, 4 gm and 7 gm urea, TST and MP, respectively in 1 m² area of seed bed. Twenty-one day old seedlings were transplanted in a 20 m² plot at a spacing of 20 cm x 15 cm with 2:8 ratio to R and A line using RCB design with 3 replications. GA₃ concentration viz.0, 40, 60 and 80 ppm per hectare at 5%, 15-20% and 35-40% flowering stages were applied as per treatments. Twelve combinations of treatment were done as GA₃ concentrations vs flowering stages. Fertilizers @ 150:100:70:60:10 kg/ha urea, TSP, MP, gypsum and zinc were applied. Intercultural operations, irrigation, rouging, and supplementary pollination were performed.
