Integrated Management of Seedling Diaseses of Cauliflower and Tomato in Seed Bed Nursery

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was conducted BARI farm at Joydevpur during 2004-05 to evaluate the efficacy of some organic soil amendments and bio-control agent to minimize soil borne pathogens vegetable seedling. The treatments were T₁-Poultry Refuge (PR), T₂- Mustard Oil Cake (MOC), T₃- PR+MOC, T₄- Tricoderma harzianum (GT1), T5- GT1+PR, T₆- GT1+MOC, T₇-GT1+PR+MOC, T₈- Saw dust burning, T₉-Vitavax-200, T₁₀- control. Significantly lower number of seedling mortality in both cauliflower and tomato due to diseases was found in all treated plots as compared to untreated control. The highest plant height and fresh plant weight of both cauliflower and tomato were observed when the soil was treated with poultry refuse, mustard oil cake and GT1 isolate of T. harzianum.

Objectives:

An experiment was undertaken to evaluate the efficacy of some organic soil amendments and bio-control agent to minimize soil borne pathogens vegetable seedling.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted BARI farm at Joydevpur during 2004-05 following RCBD with 4 replications under seed bed nursery conditions. The treatments were T₁-Poultry Refuge (PR), T₂- Mustard Oil Cake (MOC), T ₃-PR+MOC, T₄- Tricoderma harzianum (GT1), T₅- GT1+PR, T₆- GT1+MOC, T₇-GT1+PR+MOC, T₈- Saw dust burning, T₉-Vitavax-200, T₁₀- control. The unit plot size was 1mX1m and amended with test pathogens S. rolfsii and R. solani colonized barley grain @ 40g/plot before 15 days of seed sowing. Seven days prior to seed sowing, Poultry refuge (3 ton/hac, 300g/m²plot and mustard oil cake (200kg/ha, 20g/m²plot) and GT-1 isolates of Trichoderma harzianum colonized with tea waste 40g/m2 were mixed with the soil. Seed germination was tested by blotter method to determine seed germination. Seedling emergence mortality (pre and post) in seed bed was recorded 20 days after seed sowing. Plant heights, fresh and dry weights of seedlings were recorded at 30 days age of the seedlings.

Achievement/Findings:

Significantly lower number of seedling mortality in cauliflower due to diseases was found in all treated plots as compared to untreated control plots. The highest plant height and fresh plant weight were observed when the soil was treated with poultry refuse, mustard oil cake and GT1 isolate of T. harzianum. Significantly lower number of seedling mortality in tomato due to diseases was found in all treated plots in compare to untreated control plots. The highest plant height was observed when the soil was treated with poultry refuse, mustard oil cake and GT1 isolate of T. harzianum. Same trend was observed in case of fresh plant weight and dry weight of plant populations.
