Growth Analysis on Some Advance Lines of Hybrid Rice

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An experiment was carried out in farmers field at Kutubpur village under Muktagacha upzilla of Mymensingh district, during the period of boro season from December 2005 to May 2006 with a view to studying on growth on seven advanced hybrid rice lines (HSCY-900, HSLY-106, HSLY-3, HSFZ-2, HSG-6, HSG-5 and HSSY-64 ) in comparison to two check varieties (Hybrid Heera dhan and modern check varieties BRRI dhan28).The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. Data on growth parameters such as plant height, number of total tillers hill^-1, number of effective tillers hill-1, total dry matter leaf area index and crop growth rate and production dry matter at different growth stages (45, 60, and 75 days after transplanting) were recorded. At 60 days after transplanting advanced rice lines HSSY-64 and HSLY-3 gave the highest and lowest LAI, respectively. Heera dhan produced the tallest plant (120.3 cm) and advanced rice line HSLY-3 gave the shortest plant height (85.1 cm). The advanced rice line HSG-6 produced the highest number of tillers/ hills (14.5) and the lowest was recorded in Heera dhan (9.2).

To investigate physiological characters with yield and yield attributes of some advance hybrid lines.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted to studying on growth on seven advanced rice lines (HSCY-900, HSLY-106, HSLY-3, HSFZ-2, HSG-6, HSG-5 and HSSY-64) in comparison to two check varieties (Hybrid Heera dhan and modern check varieties BRRI dhan28). Data were collected on plant height (cm), number of total tillers hill^-1, number of effective tillers hill^-1, TDM (g/hill), leaf area index (LAI), crop growth rate (CGR), panicle initiation (DAT), full heading (DAT) and maturity (DAT) at different growth stages.

Achievement/Findings:

The advanced rice lines had lower plant height than Heera dhan and BRRI dhan28. So, these lines did not lodge up to at harvest. The crop duration of all the advanced rice lines was shorter than Heera dhan (99-5). So, this character was a good character for earliness.
