Characterization of Germplasm for Medium Water Stagnation Environment in T. Aman Season

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was conducted at Plant Physiology Division in Bangladesh Rice Research Institute to identify new donor sources tolerant at the water stagnant condition. A total of 65 germplasm and one check BRRI dhan49 were characterized against medium water stagnation environment. Fourteen days old seedlings of each germplsm were transplanted using 1 seedling per hill and 20 cm x 20 cm spacing. At 20 DAT, water stagnation was started 15 cm depth and it was increased upto 60 cm by increasing water depth 15 cm with 10 days intervals. Water stagnation condition was maintained at 60 cm depth upto PI stage. One control set was considered for this experiment. At water stagnant condition, plant height ranges from 90 cm to 202 cm and Lakhi digha, Lal digha, RD 19, Digha, IR2436-266-3-2-3, Acc.86, Acc.no 95, Acc.no 96, Acc.no 99, Acc.no 100, Acc.no 101, Acc. 104, Acc.no 108, Acc.no 111, Acc.no 112, Acc.no 115, Acc.no 116, Acc.no 121, Acc.no 127, Acc.no 132, Acc.no133, Acc. 134, and Acc. 136 were elongating type. On the other hand, at normal condition plant height ranges from 101 cm to 195 cm. But effective tillers per hill were higher at normal condition than stagnant condition. Variation was also observed in grain yield. The elongating type 23 germplasm at stagnant condition should be considered for further investigation.
