Abstract/ Executive Summary:

This study was carried out at BRRI Gazipur in Boro season during 2006-2007. The objective of this study was to find out the effective dose of GA3 and its time of application on hybrid rice seed production.One CMS line (BRRI IA) along with its restorers (BR168R) was grown as parental materials. Restorer was sown in three different dates at five days interval and CMS line was sown along with second set of its respective R line. Average seed yield is about 25 t/ha. Grain (Size and Shape) is medium bold type.

Objectives:

To find out the effective dose of GA₃ and its time of application on hybrid rice seed production

Methodology:

One CMS line (BRRI IA) along with its restorers (BR168R) was grown as parental materials. Restorer was sown in three different dates at five days interval and CMS line was sown along with second set of its respective R line. After ten days, fertilizers were applied @ 7 gm, 4 gm and 7 gm urea, TSP and MP respectively in per sq. m of seed bed. Thirty days old seedlings were transplanted in a 20 m² plot at a spacing of 20 cm x 15 cm with 2:8 ratios to R and A line using RCB design with 3 replications. GA₃ concentration viz.0, 40, 60 and 80 gm per hectare at 5%, 15-20% and 35-40% flowering stages were applied as treatments and no chemical were used incase of control. Twelve combinations of treatment were done as GA₃ concentrations vs flowering stages. Fertilizers @ 270:130:120:70:10 kg/ha Urea TSP-MP-Gypsum-Zinc sulphate were applied. Intercultural operations, irrigation, rouging, and supplementary pollination were performed when necessary.

Achievement/Findings:

The hybrid combination seed production for Boro season of Bangladesh. The higher seed yield (2.6t/ha) was obtained from applying 60gm GA₃ @ per ha at 5% and 15-20 % flowering stages.
