Observational Trials of Experimental Hybrids During Boro Seasons of 2010-2011

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Observational trials of experimental hybrids is the nursery from where apparently promising hybrids are come out. Comparing the tested entries with standard check variety which one expressed yield advantage more than 20% over check variety is considered as promising hybrids. Commercial seed production feasibility also assessed in the next season for its commercial viability in terms of hybrid seed production. Then trial is set up for preliminary yield trial, multilocation trials then submitted national hybrid rice yield trial for final evaluation. A total of 69 experimental hybrids were evaluated under observation trial. : An experiment was conducted comprise 37 experimental hybrids with high amylase, fine grain and intermediate grain type background. High amylase background hybrid combination IR79156A/BR15R found suitable and showed yield advantage around 20 and 35% over check variety BRRIdhan28. In case of fine grain hybrid, one hybrid Jin23A/PR344 performed well got yield advantage18% over BRRI dhan28 and 33% over BRRI dhan50.

Objectives:

Selection of promising hybrids from test entries

Methodology:

Thirty hybrids (High amylase, fine grain, High yield with medium grain) along with 5 checks. Thirty days old seedlings were transplanted in 2m² area plot following RCB design with 3 replications using single seedling per hill at a spacing of 20 cm x 15 cm. Fertilizer dose was applied 270:130:120:70:10 Urea- TSP-MP- Gypsum- Zn SO₄kg/ha, respectively.

Achievement/Findings:

High amylase background hybrid combination IR79156A/BR15R found suitable and showed yield advantage around 20 and 35% over check variety BRRIdhan28. In case of fine grain hybrid, one hybrid Jin23A/PR344 performed well got yield advantage18% over BRRI dhan28 and 33% over BRRI dhan50 . Moreover it is 3 and 17 days earlier than BRRI dhan28 and BRR Idhan50
