Combining ability on grain yield and its components from line x tester analysis of twenty rice hybrids produced by crossing five CMS lines and four testers of local and exotic origin were studied. The analysis revealed higher sca variance than gca variance for all the traits indicating the prevalence of non-additive gene action. The combining ability studies of the parents provide information which helps in the selection of better parents for effective breeding. Combining ability analysis also provides information on additive and dominance variance. Highest yield / plant was found 21.98 gm/plant in BRRI9A/BRRI12R where parents were BRRI9B 19.44g and BRRI12R 16.19g and BRRI dhan28 was 14.62g with same growth duration.

Four (4) R lines viz. BRRI12R, BRRI13R, BRRI15R and BRRI17R along with five (5) testers (A line) eg. BRRI9A, BRRI10A, II32A, GuiA and WanA were crossed to generate 20 rice hybrids during Boro season 2009-10. All the parents along with 20 hybrids and four checks were raised in the randomized complete block design with three replications during Boro season 2009-10. Spacing were 20 cm x 15 cm. Fertilizers were applied @ of 270:130:120:70:10 kg/ha Urea, TSP, MP, gypsum and ZnSO4 respectively.
