Determination of Suitable Row Ratio and Spacing for Increasing Seed Yield in Hybrid Rice Seed Production During T Aman 2009

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Determination of row ratio and spacing is very important for hybrid rice seed production. Specific row ratio and spacing is required for a particular hybrid combination. Row ratio and spacing depends on floral characters of CMS lines, pollen load of restorer lines and tillering ability of both the lines. Highest seed yield was found from 2:10 row ratio with 15 cm x15 cm planting spacing (1.74t/ha). Row ratio 2:8 showed highest out crossing rate with 20 cm x 15 cm spacing followed by row ratio 2:8 with 15 cm x1 5 cm spacing.

Objectives:

To find out the optimum row ratio and spacing for hybrid rice seed production

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted using one A line (BRRI1A) along with its restorer (BRRI11R). Restorer was sown in three different dates at three days interval and CMS lines was sown fifteen days after the second set of its restorer line. Twenty one days old seedling were transplanted at a spacing of 15 cm x 15 cm , 20 cm x 15 cm and 20 cm x 20 cm with 2:8,2:10,2:12 and 2:14 row ratio of R and A line using RCBD factorial design with three replications. Fertilizers @ 150:100:70:60:10 kg/ha urea, TSP, MP, gypsum and ZnSO₄ were applied. Intercultural operations, rouging, GA₃ application and supplementary pollination were performed when required.
