Determination of Alternative Sources Ga3 on Hybrid Rice Seed Production of Promising Hybrids During Aman Season 2006

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

This study was carried out at BRRI Gazipur in Boro season during 2006. The objective of this study was to find out the appropriate alternative chemicals of GA₃ with proper dose and time of application. One CMS line (BRRI 1A) along with its restorer (BR827R) of BRRI hybrid dhan1 were grown as parental materials. Restorer was sown in three different date at five days interval and CMS line was sown along with second set of its respective R line. GA₃is very costly item and it is imported from China and India. So, alternative sources of GA₃ is very important issue for hybrid rice seed production. For this reason, the experiment was under taken to determine alternative sources of GA₃. The treatment GA₃+ KH₂PO₄ at 5% and 35-40% flowering stages gave higher (602 kg/ha) seed yield.

Objectives:

Methodology:

This study was undertaken at BRRI Gazipur in Boro season during 2006. One CMS line (BRRI 1A) along with its restorer (BR827R) of BRRI hybrid dhan1 were grown as parental materials. Restorer was sown in three different date at five days interval and CMS line was sown along with second set of its respective R line. After ten days fertilizers @ 7 gm, 4 gm and 7 gm urea, TSP and MP, respectively in 1 m² area of seed bed. Twenty-one days old seedlings were be transplanted in a 20 m² plot at a spacing of 20 cm x 15 cm with 2:8 ratio to A and R line using RCB design with 3 replications. Combinations viz GA₃ (60 ppm) only, GA₃ (60 ppm) + KH₂PO₄ (1.5 kg), GA₃ (60 ppm) + Boric acid (1.5 kg) per hectare were applied at 5%, 15-20% and 35-40% flowering stages. Twelve combinations of treatment were done as GA₃ concentrations vs. flowering stages. Fertilizers @ 150:100:70:60:10 kg/ha urea, TSP, MP, gypsum and zinc were applied. Intercultural operations, irrigation, rouging, and supplementary pollination were performed.
