Evaluation of Soil Test Based Fertilizer Doses for Maximum Rice Yield Site Location of the Research: BRRI Farm, Gazipur

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The study was conducted at BRRI farm Gazipur (AEZ 28; Land type- Medium High land) in T. Aman 2005 with six treatments viz. T₁ = absolute control, T₂ = STB doses chemical fertilizer, T₃ = 20% less than T₂, T₄ = 20% higher than T₂, T₅ = T₂ + poultry litter @ 2 t/ha and T₆ = T₂ + rice straw @ 2 t/ha to evaluate soil test based fertilizer doses along with organic manure for optimum rice yield. Result showed that use of 20% higher of STB dose increased a little grain yield than STB dose alone but not significant indicating STB dose was enough for optimum rice yield in both T. Aman and Boro season. Addition of organic manure or residue with STB fertilizer dose increased yield significantly than STB dose. This indicates that the use of organic manure even with the STB dose augmented to obtain maximum rice yield. In other words addition of organic manure increases the chemical fertilizer use efficiency for maximum rice production. This higher grain production was also supported to higher nutrient uptake.

Objectives:

To evaluate soil test based fertilizer doses along with organic manure for optimum rice yield.

Methodology:

The study was conducted at BRRI farm Gazipur (AEZ 28; Land type- Medium High land) in T. Aman 2005 with six treatments viz. T₁ = absolute control, T₂ = STB doses chemical fertilizer, T₃ = 20% less than T₂, T₄ = 20% higher than T₂, T₅ = T₂ + poultry litter @ 2 t/ha and T₆ = T₂ + rice straw @ 2 t/ha. The experiment was laid out in RCB design with 3 replications. The soil of the experimental field was clay loam in texture with pH 6.03, organic carbon 1.16%, total N 0.11%, available P 9.69 ppm, exchangeable K 0.22 meq/100 g soil, available S 15.98 ppm and available Zn was 2.69 ppm. Urea was applied in three splits as 34% at basal, 33% at 25 DAT and rest 33% at 5-7 days before PI stage. At maturity the crop was harvested manually from 5 m² area at 15 cm above ground. However, 16 hills from each plot were harvested at ground level for straw yield data. Grain yield was recorded at 14% moisture content and straw yield as oven dry basis.

In Gazipur soil, addition of organic manure increases rice yield with STB chemical fertilizer dose. It assume that organic manure increased nutrient use efficiency for maximum rice production.
