Effect of Irrigation Interval Based on Awd for Water Saving and N Fertilization Methods (usg and Prilled Urea) in Transplanted Rice Cultivation Under Different Rice Varieties (mv and Hybrid)-2009

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An experiment was conducted to quantify amount of water needed for MV and hybrid rice cultivation (short and long duration); to determine N-use efficiency by practicing AWD for different soil type; and to determine WUE, Water productivity and profitability of AWD for Boro crop.Yield and yield contributing character of different HYV and Hybrid rice were not statistically significant difference by interaction effect of irrigation and fertilizer. The highest panicle/m² (404.7) was recorded from irrigation (5-7cm) after 3 days of disappearing standing water and USG (T₃F₂) respectively. The lowest panicle/m² (243.8) was recorded along with irrigation (5-7 cm) when water is 15 cm below soil surface and USG (T₁F₂). The highest filled grain/panicle (122.7) was recorded from irrigation (5-7 cm) after 3 days of disappearing of standing water with USG (I₃F₂). The lowest filled grain/panicle (116.5) was recorded from irrigation (5-7 cm) when water is 20 cm below soil surface and prilled urea (T₂F₁). The highest sterility (14%) was recorded from irrigation (5-7 cm) when water is 15 cm below soil surface and prilled urea (T₁F₁). The lowest sterility (12%) was recorded from irrigation 5-7 cm after 3 days of disappearing of standing water with USG (T₃F₂). The highest grain yield (5450 kg/ha) was recorded from irrigation (5-7 cm) when water is 15 cm below soil surface and USG (T₁F₂). The lowest grain yield (4850 kg/ha) was observed from irrigation (5-7 cm) when water is 20 cm below soil surface along with prilled urea (T₂F₁).

Objectives:

Methodology:

The field experiment was conducted at BRRI farm, Gazipur, during 2008 - 09. The treatment comprised three levels of irrigation, four varieties and two levels of fertilizer - (i) Prilled Urea (F₁) and (ii) USG (F₂) in split-split plot design with the level of irrigation in main plot, varieties in sub plot and fertilizer in sub- sub plot, replicated three times. The experiment was conducted in Boro season with the following water treatments:T₁= Irrigation (5-7 cm) when water is 15 cm below the soil surface, T₂= Irrigation (5-7 cm) when water is 20 cm below the soil surface and T₃= Irrigation (5-7 cm) after 3 days of disappearing standing water (control). The varieties were BRRI dhan28, BRRI dhan29, BRRI hybrid2 and Heera. Recommended doses of fertilizers were applied as per the crops. A fertilizer dose of 260:100:110:56 kg/ha, 260:100:110:56 kg/ha and 270:130:120:70:10 of Urea, TSP, MP, Gypsum were used for BRRI dhan28, BRRI dhan29, BRRI hybrid 2 and Hybrid Heera and USG of 100 kg N/ha was used for Boro crop. Plot size was 4 m x 3 m. Perforated PVC pipe of 6 inch diameter was installed in experimental plots.

Achievement/Findings:

Water productivity was highest 7.75 kg/ha-mm in treatment T₁V₂, BRRI dhan29 and irrigation 5-7 cm when water is 15 cm below the soil surface. Water use efficiency, treatments T₂V₂ (irrigation 5-7 cm when water is 20 cm below the soil surface) and BRRI dhan29 and T₁V₂ (irrigation 5-7 cm when water is 15 cm below the soil surface) and BRRI dhan29 gave better performance (88 and 85%). The highest grain yield (5820 kg/ha) was recorded along with irrigation 5-7 cm when water is 15 cm below the soil surface, BRRI dhan29 and USG (T₁V₂ F₂). Highest nutrient uptake (104 kg/ha) was recorded along with irrigation 5-7 cm when water is 15 cm below soil surface, BRRI dhan28 and USG (T₁V₁F₂).
