The study was conducted on a commercial layer farm at Trishal Upazilla on a village side area to observe the production performance of ISA Brown layer strain. 6000 ISA Brown layer strain were studied on the farm. All of the birds were reared in cage management system. The average egg weight, hen day egg production, average feed consumption per day, feed conversation efficiency of the ISA Brown in the cage management system at Krishibid farm Ltd. Trishal, Mymensingh were studied. The hen day egg production was 77.16±17.33 (%), feed conversion efficiency was 4.37±10.26, average egg weight 61.45±4.11 g and the average feed consumption was 116.47±7.47 g per bird per day. The above findings of the present study were near about similar to the recommended production level of Hendrix Genetic Company, France, 2006, except hen day egg production. The hen day egg production was slightly lower than that of the recommended production level. It may be due to management and climatic effect on birds. Finally it is recommended that ISA Brown layer strain in adaptable and profitable for Bangladesh.

The experiment was conducted at Krishibid Farm Ltd. Trishal, Mymensingh for the period of eighty weeks from 2008 to 2009. 6000 ISA Brown layer strain were studied on the farm. All of the birds were reared in cage management system. The production of the farm started from 20 weeks. The data related to different parameters were studied from 20 weeks to 80 weeks. Data collection - The necessary data of related parameters were collected from the record book of the commercial layer farm. The following data were recorded during the whole period of the study: Daily recorded parameters: Hen day egg production, Egg weight, Mortality of birds, Feed intake, and Feed conversion efficiency. Measure of egg production - Egg production of was measured by the following index: Hen day egg production (HDEP) - Hen-day egg or percent lay on daily basis was calculated by using the following formula, HDEP (%) = (No. of egg produced/laid × 100/No. of birds available in the flock on that day). Hen day egg production for the whole production period was worked out by summing up the daily hen day egg production of the flock. Feed consumption - Three types of feeds were supplied to the birds. These are chicks, grower and layer feeds. The composition of feed ingredients supplied by the farm were recorded. Type of rearing - Laying birds were reared in cage management system. Measure of feed conversion efficiency (FCE) - Feed conversion efficiency was measured by the following index: FCE = (Unit of feed intake/Unit of production). Vaccination - Vaccinations were done against Gumboro, Ranikhet (ND), Fowl pox, EDS76. Deworming schedule - Deworming was done every 45 days interval. Bio-security - It is a costly business to control diseases of poultry industry within the flock or between flocks. In fact, it is well accepted that disease accounts for at least 10% of total production costs and the overall costs of outbreaks of specific disease in poultry make devastating reading. For example, an outbreak of Avian Influenza (AI) in Italy in May 2000 cost at least 200 million Euros and caused the death of over 14 million birds. Another example is if exotic New Castle disease became established in America, it could cost the poultry industry. If production cost of bird is reduced then the efficiency will be increase and one of the most significant limiting factors to efficiency and good performance is disease. Hence if disease is prevented or limited, efficiency will automatically rise. The most effective form of protection against disease, especially for livestock farmed under modern production technique is Bio-security i.e. excluding disease from the farming environment, and this hold the key to successful and profitable farming. Targeted and individually Relevant bio-security actions taken at a practical farm level have the potential to provide real benefits in disease control, which will bring direct returns to individual producers. This farm strictly maintained disease free state by chemically and fumigation process. Initially the house was properly cleaned with chemical substance iosan and phenyl then fumigated by the use of formalin and potassium per manganet. The farm disposed their dead birds with a pit and separated the diseased bird accurately.

Layer in the commercial layer farm, the production performance under cage system of rearing was recorded for a certain period of the production from 20 weeks to 80 weeks of age and from the analysis of those recorded data it is clear that hen day egg production performance nearly supports the recommended level. The average hen day egg production calculated 77.16 ± 17.33 and the recommended level of Hendrix Genetics Company was 84.43 ± 10. The peak production was 95% at the early stage of laying in Hendrix Genetics Company. The age respectively 25-30 weeks, but the estimated peak production was 87% at the age of 51 weeks and the level of peak production ranged 50-55 weeks. So, it is interesting thing to find that the time to gain the peak production in later stage of ISA brown strain in my present study.
