The study was conducted to investigate the occurrence of PPR in goats at upazila veterinary hospital, Rangpur, Bangladesh during September 2014 to February 2015. A total of 112 diseased goats were examined on which 21 PPR cases (18.75%) were diagnosed on the basis of clinical history. High fever, nasal and ocular discharge, rapid and labored breathing, mouth lesion and diarrhea were the common findings during clinical examination of PPR patients. The study revealed that about 0-6 months aged group of goats (46.15%) were more prone to PPR as compare to other aged groups. In addition, Black Bengal (20%) were more susceptible than Jamunapari (17.64%) goats. In case of Black Bengal goats the highest temperature and dehydration were recorded in 104-105.9°F, and 69.23%, respectively. Whereas, in case of Jamunapari goats the highest temperature and dehydration were recorded in 104-105.9°F, and 66.66%, respectively. On the other hand, in case of crossbred the highest temperature and dehydration were recorded in 104-105.9°F, and 60%, respectively. It was revealed that females were more susceptible than male goats. Thus, it was found that the combined therapy was most effective in treatment of PPR in goats.

To the prevalence of PPR by clinical history as well as to evaluate the symptomatic treatment of PPR in goats.

The study was conducted at the upazila veterinary hospital Rangpur, Bangladesh during the period from September 2014 to February 2015. The study was carried on natural host i.e. peste des petits ruminants infected goats of various age, sex and breed that were brought to the hospital throughout the study period. A total of 112 diseased goats were recorded in which peste des petits ruminants (PPR) infected case was only 21. The total samples were divided into several groups according to breed, age and sex. Diagnosis was made by means of clinical history, physical examination, clinical signs and gross pathological lesions of the goats. Gross history was recorded for PPR infected goats showing different clinical signs. Histories of the cases were evaluated by asking questions to owners and all the cases were recorded. Clinical examination The clinical examinations were performed carefully and the findings were recorded. Close inspection were performed properly in order to investigate the showing signs such as occulonasal discharge, diarrhoea, respiratory distress and weakness of animals. Temperatures were recorded in each cases. Respiratory distress was identified with the help of stethoscope and observed the lung and tracheal sounds and findings were recorded. In diarrheal case, dehydrations were measured by skin fold test. Skin fold test was performed to estimate the degree of dehydration. Sudden high fever (104-106°F), oculonasal discharge, difficult breathing, non haemorrhagic diarrhea, rough hair coat, characteristic smell from mouth, anorexia, depression, severe dehydration and emaciation followed by hypothermia were recorded. Lining of mouth become pale and sometimes membrane become obscure due to cheesy material.

Ovine rinderpest commonly known as peste des petits ruminants (PPR) is a contagious disease of goats and sheep. The disease is spreading day by day. A total of 18.75% PPR cases were recorded in the study area. It was found that young animals were more susceptible (46.15%) than that of adults (23.07%). In addition, females (66.66%) were more infected than males (33.33%). In contrast, Black Bangle goats (20%) were more susceptible to PPR than Jamunapari (17.64%) goats. Thus, it was revealed that combined therapy was most effective in the treatment of PPR in goats. The chances of other bacterial infections especially pneumonia and gastroenteritis increases which may be due to immunosuppressive nature of the PPR disease and hence, it causes serious economic losses and also markedly decreases the production of the infected animals. Regular vaccination against PPR and proper surveillance and monitoring can eradicate the disease.
